The Stalker is 15 tons lighter than an Atlas.

15 Tons is a lot of difference. The Atlas with its 15 extra tons is going to have an advantage in either weapons (crit space), ammo, or armor.

Just call it a hunch, but anyone who pilots a Stalker like an Atlas is going to have a bad time.

You get it, Stalker isn't ATLAS, ATLAS isn't Stalker. Know your role before you get 85 tons of beauty wrecked.

You can turn a stalker into an 85 ton Battlemaster... which just happens to be just the right weight! ;)

On a related note, why so many mechs where the base variant has 4 medium lasers? Jenner, Catapult, Cataphract, Stalker, Atlas. In fact, every single mech so far except the Commando and Awesome has either 2 or 4 medium lasers. I know it is a common configuration, but a little more variety would be nice.

Medium Lasers are the "work horse" weapons of the Inner Sphere. Ammunition weapons have other advantages over them but only rare mechs do not carry energy backup weapons of which the Medium Laser is the most common. When you go on a long mission on a hostile world do you want to hope your ammunition holds up or be able to rip the side of a tank off with your 4 large Lasers instead of wasting an AC20 shot on "Popcorn"?

Agreed, I never try to fire my AC20 or SRMs on a Light mech I know I wont hit, especially with the lag shield now. (But if that light is standing still like a fool, I'll release EVERYTHING on that poor soul) But energy weapons are perfect for dealing with the smart pilots piloting pests. Medium lasers get the best damage out of all the energy weapons for its weight. Large Lasers are extremely heavy, build up plenty of heat, but Medium lasers get the job done, without taking up your entire tonnage. Overall, can't ask for better energy balance.

Ive looked at the stalker and I thought YES. I looked at the atlas and I though walking target board. I can't understand why anyone would pick it over the stalker.

Stalker: sleek profile 2 LRM 10'S, 2 SRM 6's, 4 medium lasers and 2 Large Lasers. coming up over a hill All of its weapons are shown first.

Atlas: Wide and bulky profile. built to be shot at. Ac20, 4 medium lasers 1 LRM 20, 1 SRM 6 and coming up over a hill you would just see its head.

I do not get it. ;)

Uh...15 tons....and arm mounted weapons?

If your going to choose things emotionally, theres no point in posting because your not looking for a rational argument.

There are also issues cannonically with the Stalker: its frame is poorly able to handle the stresses resulting in more expensive and frequent maintenance.

Ive heard that, physics wise, the Stalker should not even be able to stand because of its shape and frame.

There ya go. The Stalker comes out, but you can only use it every other game due to extended maintenance ;)

They are pretty much the same.
Just stalker is more missiles-lasers
Atlas is more missiles-balistics.

As for profile - theyre pretty much the same.
Where the Atlas is wide across the front and back - easy to kill.
The Stalker is long across the front - has HUGE FLT, RFT which is easy to pop - every time ive died in my Stalker so far, its from loosing my LT, RT - not center or anything in the rear.

Now that this is actually the reality, what you say? Stalker >> Atlas in every possible way.

One on one I kill a lot of Stalkers from my Atlas. Hit them from a flank and keep it that way if I can.

Then again I killed a few Atlas in my Stalker-3S.

I just prefer the look of the Atlas over the Stalker by just []that much.
