By consistently giving 'hero' MC-only variants better stats, such as higher engine caps, more torso twist and arm movement, and greater hardpoint densities for direct fire boating. They clearly point out that the pheonix variants will have slight advantages compared to the normal ones, beyond the bonus to resource gain.

I'm sorry, are there existing hero mechs that are objectively better than their non-hero variants?

Maybe, MAYBE the Ilya is; but even that is highly debateable given the 1X and 3D.

The Heavy Metal? No. It's decent, but it's not objectively better than the 732 or 733C.

The Misery? 3F is better. Misery is decent, but the limited torso twist is a severe disadvantage.

Pretty Baby? Flame? Fang? X5? Death's Knell? YLW? Even if they are better than all their stock variants (ranges from absolutely not to maaaaaybe in the case of the Flame); they're not even close to being "top tier" mechs at the best of times.

Keep in mind, to be Pay To Win, they need to be more than just better than the non-hero variants, they need to be good enough (at least in their class) to grant a real competitive advantage vs. other players in that class, because you're matched against a like-class mech. I don't care how much better than a regular Commando your Death's Knell is, my cbill Jenner will mop the floor with it.

Ohhhh PGI, why did you do this to me... Overlord package bought.

That Locust looks awesome, it's one of my fav. mech designs of all and I was very disappointed thinking I'd never see it in game.

If PGI were particularly fiendish, next month they'd release a similar pre-order pack of Clan mechs and such.

I'd drop another $80 before people on the forums could start ranting. And given how forum folk never stop ranting, that's really something.

If I buy the lowest level prior to the end of the early bird (thus getting the +30 days) and then upgrade to higher level after the early bird time period is over (July 25th) will I still get the early bird extra premium time?? It seems like I should but I would rather be sure about it.

I won't spend another dime on this game until I know for certain that CW will be released by this summer or end of it. Just give me a date and you would have mine and everyone's money....;)

$80 is about 5 or 6 drinks out here in LA...these 4 mechs will get me WAY more enjoyment than that so it's a no brainer to buy this package. Especially if it keeps this game that I love alive a bit longer...

I had this same issue...email PGI support and ask to be "whitelisted."

what is their e-mail?

I have kids and a job, too. But why pay money for playing the game faster? Just play and enjoy.

I am just saying that the value of this package is not good.

View PostWintersdark, on 25 June 2013 - 05:36 PM, said:

That depends a lot on many things, and is different for everyone.

For me? I spend MC on regular mechs all the time. I love playing the game, but I have little time to play, being a father with young children and working 50+ hour weeks. Given my 5-6 matches a day max, on the days I can actually play? Even if I played every day, it would take me weeks to save up enough for a single large mech. Mastering Atlas' would take me months. I like new toys, so...

Even buying said mechs with MC, my enjoyment per hour is still a far better value than pretty much any of my other entertainment options.

Realistically, what happens is I buy one mech in a set of 3 with MC (ideally a hero) then the others with cbills. This deal? At $80, ignoring the (extremely valuable for me) Premium Time, the mech bays, and other silly stuff, it's a great value just for 4 Hero mechs.

What this deal means to me: I'll get 4 mechs to master, and all the money I earn will be able to go to stuff I can normally never afford: Modules (I only have one of each and have to move them around right now), engines (particularly expensive XL engines), and all that stuff.

Also, it lets me tool around in my awesome battlemaster months before The Common Folk. Hell yes, I'll lord that over people like a boss douchemonkey.

Any Premium Time you get during the Project Phoenix sale will be banked in your stash of unactivated Premium Time. No clocks will automatically start ticking. ;)

Thank you for clarification!

Thanks for pointing out how badly us founders just got kicked in the balls by this offer....................

Biggest perk for Founders is that you got into Closed Beta guaranteed and early. That I don't mind paying money for. Waited too long after MW4 to get in cockpit

I would guess the date you're looking for is Oct 15th.

I think its PGIs responsibility to provide a list of providers that cover all the cases of priapism that this annoucement has caused.

altho I dont like the laser under the locust chin as much as the TRO, the rest of the mech is 100% badass locust!
That thing will be fun, or die fast (being the lightest mech MWO will ever have), 4 MGs just like my record sheets.

I think the MGs are very balanced weapons until you figure them into the hardpoint system.
Light damage, super short range, ammo dependant, but NO heat and very light weight = balanced.
I think they should let us put 2 MGs in each balistic hardpoint (or just the first 2 hardpoints), that is all the balance MGs need. Or 2 MG per balistic slot, but if you have more then 6 MG the damage starts to drop off per MG (maybe wider bullet grouping or something).

If the shadowhawk looks good I might just get the shadowhawk/locust package and buy a battlemaster later. I liked the thunderbolt in TT but it is less dear to my heart then half the mechs already in the game.

I hope they are able to work something out for the non-veritech fighters from robotech. I can stand not having the stinger, wasp, pheonix hawk, marauder, or ostol. The ones I want are the rarely seen "droids" from robotech, the archer (better then catapult, lasers in arms, LRM in torsos FTW), warhammer, rifleman, and bombidier (ultimate LRM boat).

I was going to wait until MWO was out of beta to drop $100 split between MWO and tactics, but it looks like they are getting my money early.

It's a bit douchy that we can't choose our mechs. If we could I would buy this immediately, like this I'm not so sure. I don't give rats *** about a Locust because that's just what my Mechbay needs. An even squishier commando.

Hmm.. seems like that would be something youd be best asking the officials about. Send your question to: support@mwomercs.com

Hopefully they have answers!

Boy was my timing off I just spent my alloted money for this years 4 days ago. But this is a great deal with some mechs that have history. The mix is three of the mech I have enjoyed for years in Battle tech. I have never play an asssult but with this package I will go for it

Hey, if drop limits become an issue, then you might appreciate that 5 tons... two Locusts might be more useful in many situations than a single Cicada...

Then ELO would need to be fixed. 7 assaults versus 2 in a match is a matchmaking fail.

where is the clan Easter egg? my search-fu is weak today.

@ Prosperity Park.. You sure this package premium wont overlap our unactivated founder's 3mth premium time? I'm quite skeptical regard to this kind of packages.

Nope. They can use the names Marauder and Warhammer (or any of the unseen/reseen mechs) if they wanted to, since those names are not owned by Harmony Gold.

They'd just have to changed the design significantly like they did with the Locust. So, I imagine we'll see them as part of a package eventually. Those mechs are fan favorites...so they are holding off on it.

True, but it depends how close they could get legally. There have been some reseen designs that make my eyes vomit, but if they were able to make them look like this I would be first in line to buy them:

FAQ linked at the top clearly states it just adds to unactivated founders time.

So WOW. Just read most of the first 15 pages of posts on this and I have to say one thing.

DOESN'T ANYONE READ THE DEVELOPER'S CORNER??!???!???

Back on the 14th of June they had a big Q&A thing about what was coming! Since NO ONE on this forum seems to have read it I will Re-post the easy breakdown of basically what was said.

  • 3PV being excluded from Mercenary Warfare
  • Additional Info added to Item Descriptions in UI 2
  • The fact that Lone Wolves will have their own Meta Game rewards, without having to swear loyalty a Faction
  • The fact that a Large Mercenary Corp won't automatically be able to steamroll through the IS
  • They plan on making manufacturer-specific weapon tweaks
  • More significant bases to capture
  • Base defenses
  • Introduction of Tonnage Limits for certain gametypes
  • Headshot notifications
  • Adding the ability to see friendly loadouts
  • Reduction of JJ Screen Shake to more acceptable levels
  • Added Training Grounds functionalities
  • and more upcoming changes with tournaments, Drop Modes, and info on the Test Server

Thanks to Prosperity Park for the creation of this summation of what was being done with the patch supposedly hitting the site in July!

While there is no actual release date all this information does show that the company is doing stuff besides making repeated money grab options.
