...The Stalker, for example, has no lateral arm movement at all - only up and down. I would normally advocate keeping arm lock switched on for 'Mechs like the Stalker, to improve weapon convergence, because you are not gaining much by unlocking the arms and the torso.

You can always use the left shift key to unlock the arms when you need to hit someone above you, or below. The amount of vertical movement in the Stalker's arms always amazes me and it's great on the Alpine map particularly.

Personally I keep the lock turned off on my Stalkers just because holding that toggle can be a pain when you're trying to navigate those hills on alpine. Also, I used to pack a couple streaks for nailing anklebiters, in which case the ability to track those targets laterally to maintain lock was more than helpful.

Hey guys thanks for all the info i really appreciate it!
I'm still a newb and cant understand how people kill me so fast and it takes so much time for me to kill them... lol with Uac5, 3 Med Pulse lasers, Srm6. and LRM20. ;) i guess i need to learn to aim better. lol

One thing to be aware of in that loadout:

You are good at all ranges; but great at none.

We want balanced loadouts to work, we do, but they largely do not in the current gameplay.

I would, when you can, kind of "pick a range" and make sure all your weapons are as complimentary as possible.

LRM's mix well with AC/5, UAC/5, Large Laser, Gauss, PPC / ERPPC. Alternately, lots of LRM's with Medium Lasers for backup if someone gets under the 180m minimum range.

SRM's mix well with just about any Autocannons. SRM's + AC/20 is the ultimate close-range killer, SRM's + UAC/5's or the like gives you some range and good up-close damage.

The "kitchen sink" builds can work, and give you lots of options at all ranges, but are not as optimal at any given range as a "boat" or a build with more complimentary weapons.
