Microsoft knows they ****** up with 8, so why not stick stick to 7 for now which runs fine, skip 8 and give the 8.1 a chance?

There is a reason every on and off versions of Windows suck, need clueless users to beta test the product while paying for a full price. Skip 8 like you skipped Vista since 7 runs fine.

PS: Vista 64bit ran ok with adequate ram but 7 runs more fluid? 8 is annoying unless Classic Shell is installed to add back the Start menu but still too many times the tiled tablet GUI comes in and annoys users.
I am forced to use it in a work environment testing hardware and I am glad most systems run some for of Linux.

avoid windows 8 like the hells spawned plague that it is. Never have I been so disappointed with an operating system and I ran ME for 6 months (you know, the OS they deny making)

I didn't mind 8, it's different but it's not bad

8.1 is just 7.

Is it true the 8.1 start button we've been promised over and over just takes you to the Metro interface?

If so, Microsoft has just perpetrated the best troll over.

yah, but the metro can show your desktop in the background. You can also boot to desktop.

Really, 8.1 isn't much different from 8, and the changes they did make, are really not much different than 7.

I'm more disappointed in 8.1 then I was with 8. It was interesting.

Win8: have to put up with metro UI, better performance, usability improvements, 8.1 upgrade
Win7: marginally worse performance, more conservative look&feel, no metro UI, older OS

Technically, win8 is better, but if you can't get over the new start menu, go with win7. Personally, I don't mind the metroUI start screen and don't use any of the apps, so I use the desktop mode 99% of the time anyway. Aside from starting programs, you really don't have to use metroUI.

As I said, I've already got a copy of 7 coming for free (which beats about anything else right now) but I will leave the topic open for those others who may be looking for an OS, unless a moderator or whatever decides to remove it.
