Can anyone else start trying this and post your results? I've done it with 3xSRM6+ARTEMIS on my 732 and it seems to work a lot better than barfing them out at once.

Unfortunately, this is a strictly bad idea, unless you are just trying to tap something with 1 missile.

Chain firing them causes you to be exposed for a longer period of time, and it makes your damage less focused. "Barfing them out at once" lets you shoot>immediately twist and take cover. Staring them down as you spittle on them instead of barf just gives them more time to hit your CT.

So no, universally bad idea, unless all you have to do is hit them with A MISSILE. In that case, you can spray each pack of missiles in different places and have a better chance of hitting SOMETHING.

I get what you're saying, but results speak for themselves. When I alpha my srms, I do very very little component damage. When I chain fire them, things start turning red and falling off. That's why I'm asking volunteers to try itand then relate their experiences.

Considering the fact that hitreg is poor, chainfiring in general seems to work better than alphas at times...

There shouldn't be a difference, theoretically.

It doesn't matter if you hit 20 SRMs on a location or 1 SRM on a location, they all have a base % chance of getting a critical hit worth 1x, 2x, or 3x it's damage.

If this is indeed true, there is a big issue with the Critical Hit system (beyond it being poorly optimized and balanced).

The theory here isn't all that difficult to grasp. I'm just asking people to actually try it and not theory craft about it.

it depends on the situation. i had 2 weapon groups on my catapult A1 before i sold it. the first group was all of my SRM 6 chain fired and the second group was just an alpha strike.

when chain fire is better:
  • fast moving targets
  • hitting a heavily armed opponent that is trying to aim at you (explosions, shake effects, and noise do a good job of disrupting aim)
when alpha is better:
  • any time the shot can be pulled off with close to 100% accuracy. (effective ambushes, any time an enemy shuts down or stops in general, when you are fighting slow easy to hit targets)
  • any time that extra punch is likely to destroy an important component and/or kill the enemy mech.

I have a mouse with a lot of buttons, so I do actually have a chain-fire SRM button as well as an all-SRMs button.

I am certain the chain-fire doesn't cause more damage/destruction to the opponent. It does allow me more chances to do some damage (more than 0) to a fast-moving mech, in case I miss him. If I am fighting a light, for example, I will almost always use the chain-fire, because my chance of missing him is high.

Nothing is annoying like firing 3xSRM6+A and having them all miss. Well, wait, there actually is. Having them all hit and the opponent just laughing it off, since 18 SRMs do like no appreciable damage anyway.
