Do you love the Spider 5K? What if I told you that you can have all the same useless machine gun action you know and love without jumpjets or that pesky armor! I give you: the Locust 1V! It's the scout you love, but worse in every way!

Tired of being able to take hits? Tired of being able to circumvent obstacles and outmaneuver your opponents with your jumpjets? Never fear, PGI has a mech to fix all your problems! Enjoy the view of exotic locations for the smoking wreckage of your battlemech, marvel at the soil of alien planets as you hit the dirt over and over again.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, all this could be yours so come on down and buy some MC!

I actually like MGs now. They do 1 DPS per MG now, so that is 4 DPS with no heat if you can pack 4 of them. Better damage than a couple medium lasers, though they are definitely trickier to use.

I think it and the flea are just going to be hard to basic and elite because its all about damage right now.

I have mastered the SDR-5D and am determined to do the same for the LCT-1V and FLE-17. If it's all about damage, why pilot anything but an assault?

edit: 1 of each mech mastered is my goal, btw.

I have mastered all lights which are now ingame and 5K is not the worst by far.I consider ravens 4x and 2x as worst due the lack of speed. It does not matter if you have 25 or 30 armor on legs/torsos since nowadays alphastrikers kill/leg you with one shot anyway. But that lack of speed is deadly.

I'm sorry OP but I couldn't be happier about the inclusion of the Locust.

Don't like it? Don't pilot it. I love my 5K.. quad machine guns? Yes please. I've cored many a heavy and assault so far.

I love all my Spiders. I'm going to love the Locust too.

While I wait I'll even get a Flea or 3. Light mechs are where it's at.

I wonder how big a Locust is.....wonder if it can run through under a atlas. :P

Might be so small you won't be able to aim down enough.

You never played the Tabletp game right? Dont make PGI responsible for a design they took 1/1 from the tabletop Mech.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Locust

Btw the chassis has 5 tons less than a Commando, so i expect a similiar size. i hope, an ER Large Laser and 4 MG`s is a possibility.

I dunno, I've mastered one mech and one mech only (can't be asked to because it means buying more of the same mech when I could be buying new, shiny ones - also I don't play as often as I should. That mech, ladies and gents, is the Commando. Mastered the 2D, 1B and TDK variants, elited the others. I just love piloting commandos and my best mech on my stats is the Death Snail. Most damage/kill ratio I ever got was over 1k with 5 kills in the DK. Tried to print screen but that was back before the screenie folder was created. So take my word for it. I never lie. It's not damage based but point based as I see it. It's all about assists, spots etc.
Maybe I'm deluded, maybe I'm blind. Both, most likely, but hey, my two pence.

EDIT: wrong quote, the edited one is the one I meant to use. Sorry Johnny

Well the spider weighs 30 tons and is the size of a hunchbacks leg. Given the trend a locust should be about the same size as a hunchbacks *****.

This is exactly why I'm excited about the locust. 5k is too much fun to be legal..

The point is why would you pilot this locust over the Spider 5K when the spider is literally better in every way? It's got the same loadout options as the spider 5K but no jumpjets and less armor. Unless there's a hard tonnage limit for drops that you want to sneak under, you're better off in the spider.

I have a feeling the Locust might be similar in height to a commando but with a smaller profile and little twig legs. I remember how much of a problem some people had when the Raven first came out saying they were shooting between their legs and not getting good effect on them. (This bight have been partially because the Ravens have jacked up hit-boxes and take more to kill than an assault mech...) But I'm thinking something like that only even harder to hit.
Also, once we get a few more lights like the Locust and Flea to go along with the Spider and Commando, machine guns might be light weight option for larger mechs that want to defend themselves or for the light mechs to duke it out amongst themselves. I remember when the Spider 5K came out I wanted to try making something like a Stinger thinking that the MGs would be good against other light mechs. I was horribly wrong, but maybe that's fixed now with the damage increase?

Anyway, I'm just hoping for new levels of scouts getting into high-speed dogfights with each other using weapons like MGs, small lasers, and flamers because they're the only things lightly armored enough for those weapons to be effective against in small numbers.

My best KDR (2.66) is in my SDR-5D and I cannot seem to change it. I calculated that I do 200 damage per kill
Can't wait for Locust and Flea.

I'm looking forward to trying to make use of it.

As part of a dedicated team, it could be fun with TAG and an AC2 for plinking.

It'd really become fun in several years when we get innovations like the MagShot and other fun little ballistics to play with.

I'm thinking we are probably going to have to see a revision of the hardpoint system PGI has put into place. I'm not too terribly worried about "which mech is better." If the "Assault Raven" of old is anything to go by - the thing may prove to be quite effective simply because it has more complicated hitboxes or seems to phase-shift around damage.

For better or worse, you can't. There's just not enough weight to mount anything over an AC10 and still get enough heatsinks to launch.
