Apologies if something similar was thrown out there, but this idea came to me. Want to see what other people think of it.
Game mode is called Chess-
Basic mechanics of this mode is that a certain mech on each team is designated "king" (not sure if it should be broadcast or not) entire point of the match is to defend your king and kill opposing king. Probably should be assault class so as not to have any one shot one kill aspect.
I think it would be interesting on the different strategies that may result.
Or perhaps this is a horrible idea and deeply flawed. You guys decide.
peace

I think it would end up like a hide and seek mode, because the kings would try to hide while the rest of the team would go looking for the other king.

Sounds actually funny. Like the VIP mode in several other FPS games. Well, the "VIP" should be shown to all players and be visible on the minimap anytime for anyone.

Actually that sounds like a lot of fun.
One mechanic you could put in is that the heaviest mech on each team is the king. If there's multiples that tie for the heaviest, then one would be chosen at random.

Put a few more restrictions on it and we could have a very interesting mode.
I'm going to use 12v12 numbers because we should have 12v12 soon.
A team can consist of 6 lights (pawns), 3 Mediums, 2 Heavies and 1 Assault (king). To win, kill the king.

What we need are MW:2 style mission-based gameplay modes that make sense in relation to the Battletech lore, and make you feel as though you are taking part in a war involving giant nuclear robots.
What we don't need are cheezy, artificial, arcadey "games" like Capture the Flag or King of the Hill. No offense.
Sorry.

It is a great idea. So great we did that already.
Tuesday night was TeamSpeak Tuesdays on NGNG Twitch.tv
They hosted my guild, and after a few 1 v 1 challenge drops we played this, but called it King of the Hill.
One Trial Atlas on each team. Everyone else was in Trial Spider. (1 ML, 1 Flamer)
Sync dropped. Hilarity ensued.

The idea of being King sounds good, but I think some are designed so that if the king is at the base can not destroy the base, I mean the king protects the base but if the king is not in the base the base can be destroyed, so to win would be to destroy the base or kill the king.

Two words;
Spider
Jump-jets
LOL, just find a nice hole somewhere high and power down.
Seriously, it sounds interesting and fun. I would think you would have to broadcast it or else not much would change. If you don't know who you have to kill, then you just try to kill everyone and it's just normal assault with a random early game ender as a possibility.

I've heard stuff about MVP mode. It'd be interesting. Look around the forums; it's not often called Chess, though.
