First Filter:
Matches: from:(forums@mwomercs.com)
Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "MWO"
The first step, this ensures my MWOMercs emails don't flood my inbox - they're moved directly to a specific label (MWO).
Second Filter:
Matches: from:(forums@mwomercs.com) subject:(liked a post you made)
Do this: Skip Inbox, Mark as read, Apply label "MWO/Interesting", Never mark it as important
When one of the MWOMercs posts is someone liking a post I've made, it gets put into the "Interesting" sub-label of MWO, but is marked as read and unimportant. I can see when people like my posts, but as they are unread they do not trigger email notifications or show up as unread messages, and are filtered out when I'm only showing Important posts.
Third Filter:
Matches: from:(forums@mwomercs.com) subject:(quoted a post you made)
Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "MWO/Interesting", Mark it as important
Like the above, but this time we leave it unread, and important. This provides a route for notifications, and are discoverable by looking at my "Interesting" folder, or by just looking for Important flagged mail.
Fourth Filter:
Matches: from:(forums@mwomercs.com) subject:(posted topic) has just posted a new topic entitled
Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "MWO/New Threads"
Every single new thread posted gets put into the "New Threads" folder; but at this point we do nothing else with it.
Note that with gmail, folders are just tags: A message can have multiple tags. This is important for later
Fifth Filter:
Matches: from:(forums@mwomercs.com) subject:((name)|(name)|(name)|(InnerSphereNews)|(name)|(name)|(name)|(a personal conversation)|(added you as a friend)|(Stats Calculator)|(name))
Do this: Skip Inbox, Star it, Apply label "MWO/Interesting", Mark it as important
"name"'s are replaced with user names of people who I stalk on account of their posts always being interesting. Also, private messages and friend addings also get marked. Thus, any threads posted by these people or posts in threads I'm subscribed to by them get flagged as "Interesting", and starred as well (easy filtering that way). As I noted above, as emails can have multiple tags, at this point an interesting person posting a new thread will see that particular email flagged with three tags - MWO, Interesting, and New Thread, and appear in each of those folders.
Sixth Filter:
Matches: from:(forums@mwomercs.com) subject:((Thomas Dziegielewski)|(Paul Inouye)|(Bryan Ekman posted)|(Bryan Ekman replied)|(Niko Snow)|(Garth Erlam)|(Russ Bullock)|(Matthew Craig)|(Alex Iglesias)|(Kyle Polulak)|(David Bradley)|(Brian Windover)|(Matt Newman)|(Karl Berg)|(Omid Kiarostami)|("MiSs replied")|("MiSi posted")|(Mike Forst)|(Viterbi)|(Gary Ginn)|(Neema Teymory)|(Dennis de Koning))
Do this: Star it, Apply label "MWO/DevTracker", Mark it as important
Aaaaaand here's the money filter. This one looks for dev names in the email subject lines, flags those emails with "DevTracker" and star AND mark as important.
