I doubt I buy it as I already have a Heavy Metal if I want to use a great Jump Capable Assault mech and I think I would rather invest in the Phoenix package. Basically there would have to be something crazy special about it to get me to consider it.

makes sense.

While it will be faster, and no doubt more nimble than a Heavy Metal, they are close enough in basic concept that I would probably only buy one or the other, myself. As a Medium Mech Pilot, the Victor's superior mobility will give it a different role than the Highlander, which suits my style more, so this is perfect for me (unless they really screw the hardpoints somehow)

This might finally be the Mech to allow me to live up to my Steiner Heritage!

I see two RT lasers, a RA Gauss, and a LA PPC. I got two words for this one "Really PGI?"

They "want" to do something about the meta by nerfing quad-PPC and hexa-PPC boating, but then announce ANOTHER mech that can fit 3xPPC's and a Gauss.

I want to buy the Project Phoenix, but this game is going fast the way of MW4.

actually make that:
1 Gauss (RA)
2 Small Lasers (RA/LA)
2 Medium Lasers (RT)
1 PPC (LA)
1 SRM6 (LT)
and possibly another missile rack to the inside of the Gauss Rifle on the right arm (it looks like one can just barely make out darker black circles in the slot, like missile ports, but it could also simply be shader andt exture flaws)

I always thought of the Victor as a Fed Suns assault. Maybe you need to come over to the FedRats?

Though, I'm thinking this "dragon slayer" is probably a nod to Patrick Kell, and the Hounds were pretty Steiner.

Of Course, He did it in Ardan Sortek's Victor, so it could be both? But then, as a Merc Mechwarrior who started life as Lyran Infantry SpecOps, then graduated to being a Rabid Fox for the MIIO, until I took a DEST VibroKatana to the knee, I feel perfectly qualified to be all mixed up.

That's right, I forgot it was Sortek's Victor that he snuck down with. Man, I JUST read that book like a month ago and I'm already forgetting important details!

And, really, by 3050 its the FedCom anyway and they're sharing everything for the next 12 or so years. So its all the same. Maybe we'll get lucky and be able to pilot the Lyran Scout.. the Zeus some day.

It probably wouldn't be painted red and black then either.. I can't recall where Sortek was posted at that time. Hmmm, guess its someone else. Any Dragoons pilot Victors?

I removed my post about it being Ardan's original a moment ago; that made no sense since that mech didn't survive the battle. But could this be Sortek's later, upgraded unit? I don't off the bat recognize the red sword on the right thigh, particularly for a unit that the mech's name suggests would often be fighting the Combine...

Hmm, could have been. But I thought he usually was in the "anti Liao" camp and "Dragon-Slayer" feels anti Kurita to me. With the colors thats why I immediately jumped to Patrick, and next to one of the Dragoons. Red and black and hating Draconis... makes sense.

Im out of ideas, guess we'll have to wait but its probably one they just made up for the occasion.

The various Avalon Hussars units are among the oldest serving Davion, and they use an upside-down sword of similar design. Ardan did serve in the 17th, but later was over the Davion Heavy Guard and eventually not in a particular RCT (upon essentially becoming Hanse's bodyguard). But it's possible he kept the insignia for dedication.

You're right though, he typically was in action against Liao. I don't think this Hero Victor will be for Patrick though since he piloted a Victor for such a short time, and this is clearly post-3030s variant - too late for Patrick Kell. It's also possible that the DragonSlayer name is not intended to represent dedicated opposition to Kurita. It would not be outside of Sortek's mindset to name his mech for an aspect of the archetypal knight (a slayer of dragons).

*goes off to hunt for his original paperbacks of the Warrior and Lethal Heritage trilogies (not to mention The Sword and the Dagger) to see if any reference is ever made to the name of Ardan's mech...*

the Paint Scheme appears to be the Robinson Rangers, isn't it?
*edit... well the colors are close, but the insignia.........hmmmmmmm

Don't forget the Heir to the Dragon, where he first encounters the upgraded Chargers in his Victor. His two listed units were the 17th Avalon Hussars and the Davion Heavy Guards, neither of which use this scheme.

also, Hans Vordel, Jaime Wolf's bodyguard in the Command Lance of the Dragoons drove a Victor, but this doesn't fit too closely for them.

or it could be another FedCOm Mechwarrior awarded the Dragonslayer Ribbon
http://www.sarna.net...ayer_ribbon.png
or (most unlikely) Hans Vordel could have rechristened his Victor that after Misery, though I don't recall if his mech made it through intact......

I saw the picture of it on the home page and nearly flipped a table. Nobody likes the jumpsniper meta except the jumpers? Better release ANOTHER gauss+energy hero. First Misery, now this. My mind is full of ****, where's that Jackie Chan pic when I need it?

How'd ya set that up?

Using Gmail. You could use regular POP mail and any decent mail client as well, but it's easier to get this to sync with an Android phone properly with Gmail.

What I did was this:

1) Enabled email notifications in my forum preferences.
2) Subscribed to every forum. All of them. So I get an email whenever someone posts a new thread, and whenever anyone posts a reply to a thread I've participated in, or likes one of my posts, or quotes me.
3) Gmail filter time! (in spoiler tags cuz this gets big)
Spoiler

4) Gmail app in Android: Sync the MWO/Interesting, MWO/New Threads, and MWO/Devtracker folders. Don't sync the MWO folder (because I don't need that spam on my phone). Set MWO/Interesting to generate one notification no matter how many mails it receives; MWO/New Threads to sync but not generate notifications (so I can check it if I'm bored and wondering what people are talking about, but don't get spammed by it), and MWO/DevTracker to generate a new notification with every email.

End result: I get a notification when people quote me, when Dev/PGI staff post new threads, or post in threads I've subscribed to (either manually or by posting in the thread). I also get notifications when interesting people post stuff, or threads I'm particularly interested in (I can put the thread title in that "MWO/Interesting" filter alongside names to generate notifications from specific threads). And, of course, I get notifications about private messages as well.

But that's not all! I also have a handy interface to check and quickly browse new thread titles, interesting people, just dev posts, just things I find more important (by either "Important" marking in gmail or starring), or anything else. If I need to find a specific thread or post, I can open my (ordinarily ignored) MWO folder and search in there.

Finally, I run this script: http://www.skipser.com/496

Which marks all my MWO emails (and thus including every sub-folder, as my Interesting, New Threads and DevTracker emails all also have MWO labels) older than three days as read, so if I'm busy for a while I don't accumulate a lot of Unread indicators in my various MWO folders.

And that is the story of a MWO geek and his email.

You're welcome. Figured there had to be a few other geeks out there who'd be interested in the concept. It works really well, and gmail doesn't balk at 5 digit mail counts (my MWO label often has over 20,000 emails in it). Every now and then I'll just select all MWO emails and delete them together, as my mark-as-read script gets pretty damn slow once I get that many mails going on... But otherwise it works flawlessly.

They were already stupid. Even when using my credit card from a major bank in its home country, they rejected my purchases for days. Even when I proved my identity in several ways, they wouldn't budge until PGI agreed to whitelist me. Idiots.
