If my idea is horribly flawed, and a lesser n00b would have known before posting this, please enlighten me so I don't die like a crippled flamingo!

Since the Victor 9K will be on sale, and since I own only 2 mechs ( 1.5, they share an engine, lol!) I'm thinking of getting this, since I always liked the Victor in the novels. Orions too, but I'm poorish, hence my engine sharing!

I'm thinking of using the standard engine so I can brawlz-a-bit and still jump a 3 story building, albeit slower than necessary.

It's still faster than a speed tweaked Stalker!

I'm equipping brawling weapons that can still reach out a little, sort of and not run hot on any map provided I can navigate 4 buttons on a 15 button Maga mouse!

Does this seem solid, on a budget?

This, for later, when I can afford that motor. :P

Thanks in advance. :P

I know that the 9K may be on sale but since you want a brawler I would go for the 9B/S models. Nothing beats the AC20 in sheer firepower and it also has a psychological bonus. I run a pretty heat efficient one with 2LLs, SRM4, and the AC20 with 4 tons of ammo. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...73c3e421f18f197 otherwise I would go with this if price is an issue http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c8312fa483764db. I hate losing JJs since I rely so heavily on them but others do fine with less so up to you. Good luck with your decision.

I feel the 9K is better suited to a mid/long range role. I agree with FireSlade that the 9B and 9S make for better brawlers due to their ability to mount an AC/20.

Having said that, you can make the 9K work in any role you want. I love my Gauss + 3 LL 9K. Of course, I loved it more before the Gauss nerf. Hopefully, some Clan tech ballistics will make it better for close range work.

I'd suggest the 9S for the option to run an ac20.. the loss in arm mobility isn't that significant... the 3 missile hardpoints is extremely good for brawling...

ac20, 2LL or 2 ML with 3 SRM4 or 2 SRM6 or 3 SRM6 - JJ 275 or 300 STD engine

9K with gauss was nice as a brawler with 3 MLs and 2 SRMs. With the guass changes? Not so much.

I like my current 9S build with 2 UAC5s and 2 LLs for a good long and short range mech. If you want more immediate punch, the AC20 has a better alpha. Try this build out with the 9s, though I might drop the SRM6 down to an SRM4 and throw in another DHS.
