Hard topic to be objective on, there are so many possible explanation/reasons.
The flat statement is a coordinated group can wreak havoc in the first moments of a gunfight – in turn morale will drop multiplying the group’s effectiveness even further.
4, 5, 6 PPC boats are tough, yes high alphas can definitely break gameplay enjoyment. A group of those even more dangerous. I think PGI’s ideas on having a heat multiplier on an N+ volley, and the 150% heat causing damage will help mitigate this over time.
There are ways an individual can mitigate this – once I recognize a high alpha I either try to focus on a component, popping in/out of cover. Flank them between team mates if that is possible or keep them between cover to focus on another target. Someone already under team fire for example. Avoid getting caught in the open against unknown opponents, same as you should avoid getting caught alone.
This isn’t perfect either, only examples of my thought process during a match.
But really – the game has a lot of dynamic mechanisms by its nature. Not every strategy is going to work in the number of possible situations.
This is due in part to allowing players to customize load outs – people will look for and find the build that gives an edge. This isn’t wrong it is part of the fun. Everyone wants to win, also not wrong.
Changing one thing is going to affect another. Anyone experienced with online games recognizes that a nerf and player adjustments to it are often circular, rarely linear.

Do you even play this game? You take 4 HBK-P's against 4 Stalkers boating PPC's and which do you think will win over 90% of the time?
I don't think 90% even factors in. It's whom ever is best able to coordinate their lance of MIN-MAX boats. Don't like hunchbacks? Try this with 4 Jenners with 6-ML each. Total chaos.
My point is simply the PPC boating issue is not as bad as people are making it out to be. Do I see awful matches. Yes I do. But, it's usually when Im pugging.
The old example. 150lb MMA expert vs 250 lb fighter of lesser skill? Well, odds on skill will trump size. But 150lb fighter against a 250lb fighter of equal skill? Big guys wins every time.
Not enitrely true in this game. I solo Assaults in Jenners and Spiders all the time. Though, I cannot comment on the opposing skill set. But, I also get spanked in this scenario too.
Bottom line. Coordinated efforts in this game trump ALL ELSE

It doesn't include the part where your target is not a braindead drone that can't tell left from right, therefore it's useless.
Now I see where all these bad players come from, they've been reading the wrong guides.

I notice this a lot with the SKILL crowd. They tend to assume that only the team using non-cheese builds will--or can--use tactics. In the SKILL world, the cheesers are completely unaware of the small flaws or weaknesses in their playstyle, and will not ever use "tactics" themselves to efficently eliminate them.

Look, I may misnderstand OP's point, but seems to be that the PPC alpha stike is unbalanced.
Well, it's not. Try what they did, but mix it up a bit. You and your 3 other lance mates ALL take HBK-4P's. That is 180 damage per alpha strike if you all coordinate on the same enemy. NO ONE WILL SURVIVE THAT.
Not even a Stalker.

Yes they will, because those shots will likely be hitting different parts of the same target. The PPC cheese isn't unbalanced because it does huge damage, it's because all the shots hit the same place at the same time, letting hit locations be one or two-shot with only basic aiming skills required. And here's the thing. Why would I try to reproduce the alpha tactic in a medium, when a heavy or assault is better at alpha gameplay, and withstanding it?
Try and think back a bit, to when one of the cool things about MWO was that all mechs could take some punishment, allowing for longer battles where mistakes could be recovered from, and you, y'know, felt like you were piloting a massive death-robot. If I wanted to cower behind cover, and risk vaporisation from across the map if I exposed myself for more than a couple of seconds, I'd play Modern Military Brown Shooter #3000.

I've even tried forcing someone to recognize this in an argument and it still doesn't work:

TENDERLOVING'S CHALLENGE : Imagine that your opponent is your evil twin. He knows what you want to do. He is in a PPC Stalker and you are in whatever build you think is comparable. Someone please give me an example of how you can beat your evil twin in a manner that doesn't require you to 1. be better than him, or 2. do a lot more work than him.
I created a challenge where someone is fighting his own evil twin in an PPC Stalker. Read through the thread and see the responses to this challenge. Wouldn't you know it, even the EVIL TWIN is an incompetent boob when he gets behind the controls of a Stalker. It's really amusing to see the absolute denial that people live in.

These type of drops are ridiculous. 6 assaults to their 4. I was on the winning team, But I sure as hell feel like I was on the losing team. Just terrible. And it's only 8v8 so far, let's not even think of 12v12. Nothing about this screams fun.
