ok i need to know how to group my weapons like you know the group 1 and group 2 etc. i need to know where to do that so my weapons aren't shooting all at the same time because ever since i changed myweapons they have all been grouped in group 1 instead of group 2 or 3. can anyone assist me?

Use the arrow keys to move between the different lines (weapons) and columns (groups), and r ctrl to toggle each weapon in or out of the group.
Depending on your weapons and how many convenient buttons you have for groups you might want to set up an alpha group or a chainfire group (backspace toggles chainfire on/off for a group).
For example my HBK-4G has the following groups:
1 - AC/20
2 - 4 ml
3 - 4 ml (chainfire)
4 - alpha (AC/20 + 4 ml)
Helpful?

also keep in mind you can set up your weapon groups in training ground, this way you won't waste your time at the beginning of a match doing that!
UI2.0 will include being able to set up groups from the mechlab, coming in a couple months or so i think

Another typical pattern I see is Group 1 on Mouse 1, firing weapons in the left arm. Group 2 on Mouse 2 fires the weapons from the right arm. Group 3/Mouse3 fires missiles or torso weapons. An alpha does mean mashing 3 buttons at once, but I find it useful for when half my mech is behind cover: don't waste the ammo/heat firing into the cover.
(Note that the default keybinding is for Mouse 1 to fire the currently selected group, not group 1.)
Edit: the Location-based mode only works if the weapons in a location have the same range and muzzle velocity.

On my Stalker, I followed TheArcher's pattern for left-right-other with both groups 1 and 2 on chainfire. I added a 'laser-only' alpha strike by putting all energy weapons on group 6 also, so with a quick bump of an arrow key (moving selector between groups 1 & 6) I can toggle from my 'seek & burn a big hole' mode to 'heat management' mode.

Oooh, important point there, mouse1 will by default fire whichever column is selected so remember to use the arrows to go back to group 1 when you have finished setting up your groups.

To sum up the multiple posts:
1. Use your arrow keys up/down to move the selector between individual weapons
2. Use your arrow keys left/right to move the selector between the groups
3. When you want to add/remove a weapon to/from a group, press the Right Control Key (The number (1-6) to the right of the weapon will light up, indicating it belongs to that group)
4. If you press backspace button while the selector is on a group (doesn't matter which weapon), the entire group will start flashing individually, indicating it is on 'chain fire' mode. Press backspace again to remove chainfire for that group.
Some things to note:
MWO default mouse 1 button is to fire 'selected' group, not 'group 1'
Some folks (like myself) like to group weapons based on their location on the mech (why? Because if I stick just my right arm out, I can fire and not have my left arm weapons wasted into a mountain).
Weapons can belong to more than one group (why? Because I like having an alpha of just my lasers or what not, but also still keep them separated based on location/other groups)
