Haha, I love seeing our unit called out on the forums :( <S>
We want to see our ELO to help with things like understanding how matches are generated, tournament result fairness, and to help sync drop 8 mans for league matches. We already have inflated egos. This won't add to it. :)

Why would you have inflated egos? Oh that's right you're good at a video game, what more would a person need to be impressed with oneself.

Makes sense. Otherwise we get people with beefy and arrogant attitudes. That's what I like about MWO, the fact that our stats aren't publicly shown :)

Yup... basically the only people who want to show ELO are "the Competitive Gamer" types. One look no further than that to determine just what a stunningly bad idea showing ELO would be.

I have to disagree with this. Showing something Elo based, like leaderboard or whatever, some way to see who's the most competitive in the game, not by attitude but by results, has inherent benefits. The "arrogant" attitude so often decried by more casual players is a problem, but is sometimes important when considering game-balance opinions. It's not the be-all end-all of such discussions, certainly people with higher Elo's don't necessarily know more about balance, but there's a correlation.
