Rear armor on an assault mech isnt much stronger then med mech. So very possible to use your speed to flank him and come up and if he turns to face you he exposes his rear to other mechs.

Umm, this isn't WoT...You're using the same weapons they are, if you can fit them in. Yes, they have more armor, but sustained weapons fire, especially from medium or large lasers, will get through after a time. Just use your speed and maneuvering to keep yourself alive, and keep pecking away.

Joke's on you, gentlemen ;)

If your playing in a PUG then fools will rush in on both sides. All you can do is hang back and take advantage.

Main difference from WoT and MW:O is that a Jenner can nail an Atlas, whereas in WoT, you would be steamrolled by an E-100 or Maus if you'd try to get near it with a Stuart or Leopard.. wait.. I'm doing injustice to the Jenner.. it's WoT equivalent would be at least a VK3601h or AMX 13 75.

And to whoever came up with the "BBQ-Jenner" (flamer-equipped 'lil rascal), I salute you. There have been a couple of games where I lumbered across the battlefield in my Atlas AS7-K "Ol' Reliable", seeing an enemy Jenner rushing towards me, foolishly believeing that light mech to be an easy kill, only to find my Mech to be engulfed in flames..

EDIT: this has happened on several occasions in MW3 and MW4 online games. Pardon for being unclear on my side.

WHo says he was playing in Beta? Alot of us have been playing Multiplayer Battletech games for 10-15 years, and it's been mostly the same "Mechs the whole time. The "BBQ-Jenner" and "BBQ-Uller" have been around for at least 10 years.

Ummm........that was exactly the Jenners' role - it would fly in; attack backs and fly out - could it take a heavy or an Assault from the front? Nope that's suicide.......It will be about team work - which I think is great cause you'll need to be able to trust your lance.....;)

yea the BBQ jenner been around for a long time - but since Devs are staying much closure to TT than any other game before.....I'd say BBQ Jenner isn't going to do much but annoy an atlas ;)

I assume this is some reference to how things are playing out in beta. Jenna not going to win by inself vs an atlas but can dam well annoy it. Force it to change targets.

I have seen several posts of late about how F2Pers are going to overwhelm the game by paying for powerful Mechs and playing like solo players in team matches by having BIG Mechs with BIG weapons and lots of armor. This misconception is a result of a lack of information. Please watch and listen to this video:

The truth is that MWO is not going to be won by solo players with BIG Mechs and BIG weapons. In fact those guys will be the first to die. The other important point here is no re-spawn. One life to live per match tends to be a deterrent to rushing fast and furious into battle. People may do it once or twice, but after dying a few times that will stop. How embarrassing for 12 BIG Mechs to lose their base to a few scouts that just did an end around and got to the base before they could catch up. The BIG Mech BIG weapons strategy alone will not win matches on a regular basis in MWO. Team up or plan for a lot of deaths and losses.

I think the misunderstanding is on your end. I don't fear the 5 Rambo Atlases on the enemy team who rush head-long into my team and die fruitless deaths. I'm concerned about the 5 on my team who do that.

You sure about that?
Yes 5 on 12 is bad but what if it is 5 on 7 with 3 AS7-K/ 2 AS7-D models you get a mix of fire power at differant ranges and since each packs a LRM 20x5 that is equal to 3 cats all firing at once with Gauss and Large laser and a whole lot of armor while closing.

Heh in pug matches you'll always have those that rush blindly forward, also those who camp if there is even the slightest reason to do so. You'll also have instances of student body left or right, as most pugs have no coordination. Most matches it won't be the team with the biggest or best mech's that win, it will be the team that most closely works together and uses their mechs as they are intended. scouts scouting and harassing mechs, mediums flanking and brawling, heavies and assaults brawling and pushing the opposing positions, with support mechs supporting the pushes and doing counter battery against the opposing support mechs. Also the team that coordinates fire to bring a mech down rather than leave half a dozen damaged mechs running around will usually win. Pugs are pretty much free for alls in almost any game, I don't expect this to be much different.

Hence one of the many challenges of playing a multiplayer game.

I dunno about you, but 5 Atlases charging into the fray? That sounds like a lot of chaos i could be capitalizing on in an LRM Boat, and as long as they stick together, I want them on my team.

I think there should be a introduction to MWO, explaining how the game works when you first boot up the game. And can be re-accessed in the extras menu. That way it will help the new players who just randomly found the game and thought it was cool looking.

i like this idea a lot, even though i plan on playing lights, i still see myself edged out of games for assaults by the Pugs

Pugs = Pick Up Group.s

this happened in MW3 and MW4 in on-line games i don't think he meant in MWO, or at least i hop he isnt as daft to break a NDA on a game this important.

While I am not completely sure, I think what was intended was that the entire team for this senario would be only 5 Atlas' due to weigth limits. Their opposition would be a mixed group of various and several more Mechs of varying roles and weights.

Oh. so a Steiner Scout Lance versus 12 mechs of varying weight classes.

...could go either way.

No, i was making a joke about how fast people would point out that this isn't WoT and that smaller 'mechs can, in fact, damage assault 'mechs since they are not tiered.
