I've had two issues here:

1. Tried deploying it. Says its deployed but no marker on the minimap and no indication that I'm seeing mechs I normally wouldn't. Nothing seems to happen. UAV not consumed in mech lab

2. Tried deploying. Same issue as above but UAV is consumed.

If you deploy an uav, leave the area and still see enemy mechs where deployed its working. As to not consumed, are you sure it was deployed as I have tried to deploy coolant which never deployed.

The current UAV is weak. It has a very small field of view. You literally have to be on top of the enemy mechs for it to see them. I've only launched it a few times myself. You have to suicide run through the enemy position and launch the UAV as you pass through them.

Also it only stays up for a short time, 30-45 seconds depending IIRC.

I don't think the current UAV is worth the hassle. Too high risk for the pilot launching for too short of a flight time, and too small a field of view.

I beg to differ. My team went up against a assault based ppc group with ECM , they were destroying us till the raven ran thru them launched the UAV and then we brought down the rain of LRM on them. What a turn around.

I absolutely LOVE the UAV, and I agree, its glitched. Its very annoying to not know where it is, especially after I upgraded to 60 seconds. I keep having to back up and hold "q" to se it in the air.
As for usage, yeah, drop it in a brawl and bring the rain! Its also nice for fighting in/around cover, when you KNOW an enemy is there, and can't get info. I can't wait to now get enough GXP for seismic. It should mean every UAV launch is a good one.

The UAV is my favorite module right now. I run a COM-2D and I love it. The vision it provides is 200meter radius, on river city that covers more area than a single grid sometimes, Basically if you get two people deploying UAVs in River city you have full vision of an entire engagement area across both banks for 45 seconds. People think Seismic is OP, but in my opinion UAV is even stronger because it allows your entire team to not only see the enemies but also lock on them.

As a scout my job is to find the enemy team and make their lives miserable, especially when I'm not firing at them or capping their base. So I get close, find where their high priority mechs are, deploy the UAV, and then match them scream in terror as they cannot escape the onslaught headed their way.

in large maps like Alpine peaks, the UAV drops in performance, but not by much, all you need is to find the proper spot to deploy it so your teammates can have the best vision on the map.

Tourmaline Desert is a map where UAV excels, it is mostly a sniper heavy map, and the UAV will give your team an incredible advantage by revealing the sniper nests long after you have left. Best part about it is that the enemy doesn't know there is a UAV in the air. For all they know you're still popping out every few seconds behind them to tag them for your teammates. It can cause confusion in their ranks sometimes.

If you pair it with Seismic it is an absolutely devastating combination.

Going to bed so making this quick: Sorry it isn't closer but I haven't gone about trying any UAV tests since.
The UAV is the friendly marker that floats in the sky when it is launched.

Our missile frenzy against the enemy wasn't as bad as the first time I was on the receiving end of UAV (completely baffled I kept trying all the old tricks to stop LRM homing I was not able to do anything. Shutting down, ECM, away from line of sight, in cover, nothing worked! 5 of our team was wiped out in less than a minute by LRMs).

I have tried to set up both UAV mods in my Heavy Metal, and not seeing them show up in my HUD display. All other models that I have seem to be working okay, except for the Heavy Metal. I also noticed that the UAV does not show up in the Hunchback 4-SP and JM-6-DD. I do not know if anyone else is having this problem. I have reinstalled the client, as well as continually use the repair tool.

Results from UAV tests as follows:
Mechs which have no problems with UAV display:
  • Cicada X-5
  • Cicada 3-M
  • Raven 3L
  • Cataphract 2X
  • Cataphract 1X
  • Cataphract 3D
  • Ilya Muromets
  • Cataphract 4X
  • Centurion CN9D
  • Centurion 9D
  • Centurion 9-AL
  • Yen-Lo-Wang
  • Hunchback 4J
  • Atlas AS7-D-DC
  • Catapult C1(F)
Mechs with NO HUD Display:
  • Heavy Metal
  • Blackjack BJ-1
  • Hunchback 4-SP
No One has said anything about this problem. I can see the UAV beginning to display when the match starts, but it does not display for the duration of the match.

Another mech to add to the list of no problems with UAV is the Spider 5D. We dropped in a very disorganized 8-man group. I had a UAV in my Spider, deployed it as I charged through the enemy lines, and before the UAV finished we had two DDCs down due to lrms. No problems there, I think. UAV was a complete game changer in that drop.

I haven't seen any problems with the UAV, but it sounds like OP should submit a ticket (if it hasn't been done already).

As to the other discussion, the spider pilots in my group absolutely love the UAV (as do their LRM boating teammates). A sneaky mech with ECM can easily get one up above the enemy team, and they will usually never notice.

I keep having issues launching the UAV. What key do I hit?

saw this on youtube...great vid...searched there before i even tried UAV

only thing about UAV and other consumables i hate is the fact that you have to waste a module slot to upgrade their usefulness...other modules dont require that

unless im wrong...but it does seem the MC versions give a distinct advantage even after pilot tree GXP expenditures

edit: correct me if i'm wrong please...but it looks like the arty and airstrikes require extra module slots for the bonus on accuracy...thats stupid to me

The MC versions have a very subtle single second advantage in terms of Artillery and Air Strikes compared to upgraded cbill versions. I don't mind as sometimes the upgraded ones come too fast.

Bonus accuracy usually hurts said modules, but yes it's true.

In terms of coolshot there really isn't a difference between 9x9 and the MC version. Though I bet it'd sell more frequently if you could equip both at the same time.

yeah...its the small stuff that bugs people about p2w...better pilot would win every time...but it should be a level playing field...i've paid into this game but i dont want some small advantage over free to play players

its about fairness i guess

I think if they/will nerf seismic they should buff uav. Say seismic to 200, 100 and uav to 400,200.
