Fun activity: go to your profile then check your damage/hit ratio with lasers. This should reflect your average ability to keep a beam on target.

Currently I'm scoring 3.42 damage per hit with my large lasers and 2.03 damage per hit with my mediums. 2.41 with my medium pulse lasers, which is disappointing but I gave up on them anyway. Small lasers, which I don't even remember using, have a perfect score of 3!

Haruspex, it has one other factor which is range. If you held the beam on 100% with a ML but at a range of around 490 m then you might only see a damage of 1 because of the reduced damage by range.

What I find fun is if you take the damage you are putting out, say your 2.03 damage per hit with a ML, divide by the maximum theoretical damage of 5 you get the percentage of 40.6% damage output on hits. Then multiple that by your accuracy (say 90%) 0.90 x 0.406 x 100 = 36.54% which is the amount of damage produced versus total potential damage. Looking at mine, most weapons are 48% to 59% in a +/- 10% of average. My low number is LRM15 with only doing 31.93% :D

Congratz on the perfect score of 3 with SL though, I am at a measly 1.59 average damage per hit.

This probably explains why my number of perceived hits and end-game damage never seem to have anything to do with each other.

Didn't think you could do much damage beyond that stated range, which is why I rarely ever try that. Might be useful though, if just to annoy the enemy.

Large Lasers: 66,438 /12,957 = 5.13
AC 20: 51,037 / 2,639 = 19.34
Fun!

Smurfy's website has a nice graphic of the damage fall-off past the stated range. Gauss rifles go out to 1850 meters, if I recall before doing no damage at all.

You would think weapons in the future would do damage at longer ranges then current weapons of today. :{

LL = 5.35 (~4500 hits) 59% of 9...85% hit accuracy
ML = 3.17 (~8500 hits) 63% of 5...88% hit accuarcy

A nice fun metric :)

Edit: Here's an interesting one...
ER PPC 228 5,055 2,793 55.25% 19:36:54 28,722
...which oddly enough, works out to 10.28 damage per hit? Ammo explosions counted in stats perhaps?
