Increased speed cap, fix to pinpoint alpha strike issues, and a drop weight limit would probably bring medium mechs back into the game.

How to make Mediums Viable.
Community Warfare, and more notably, Dropship Mode.
With drop weigh limits you will see more mediums used as gap fillers.
E.G. Drop limit is 200tons for a 4 re-spawn mode (we know this much about the number of re-spawns, wight is still a guess). So thats 4 50 tons medium mechs if you want to keep all the same mech. It also can be a lot of other combinations to get 4 "lives" but mostly it will be based around mediums/lights. You COULD take 2 Attali and be done with it, but then you only get to come back ONCE. This will also mean if you DO see an assault on the field, most people will FOCUS him knowing full well there is very little behind him (meaning one extra life or a bunch of lights after). You will see the death of FULL on assault mech drops, and see the "meta" shift to heavys/mediums being the "big boys" and very little of the assaults. If any assaults are used they generally would be of the lighter kind, like the highlander being the heaviest of the assaults used, and more stalkers/victors/awesomes being used.
Currently. Mediums are fun to run, hell the 4G is a blast (literally) to book around in with a 240 eng and that big AC20.

Am I the only one that finds it silly seeing every damn mech trying to break the 100 km/h barrier?
This is mechwarrior online - not F1 Online.
We are talking about 20-100 tonnes of WALKING metal.

Well I XPed up all lights+CDAs and now working on BJs.
I had some 600-700 dmg matches even in Spider 5K(ERLL+2MG)/Cicada 3C(ERPPC+4MG) so I do not think they are not viable bcuz of class.
BTW that is reason why my eyes bleed everytime I see ppl in AS7-D-DC doing ~50 dmg.
They are not viable against ppl boating GR+3PPC or 6PPC or 2AC/20 mainly bcuz those are able to cripple/kill them with one lucky shot.

I'm not sure if MASC will benefit lights and mediums the most.
We have to wait and see but if it runs by giving extra heat heavies and assaults will rule the world

Oh my! Lights are overpowered, because ASSaults can't kill them in 10 seconds!
That's why we see so many overpowered chassis on drops - 10% or less =) ? Assaults are underpowered, but skillful pilots still using them, what a brave pilots, almost every drop has 3-5 underpowered chassis.
P.S.
Being serious: you can't kill light in 10 seconds but light can't kill or hurt YOU in 10 seconds - what's the problem?

You can buff mediums by reducing their size

Naw.
Lasers used to be the weapon of choice for killing lights, in fact I still like them for the purpose myself.
A pair of mediums aimed well is enough to drive off most light mechs, or make them regret not going away.
The good light pilots will recognize the few people who can actually aim regardless of weapons and avoid them like the plague.
Of course most light pilots aren't that great, can't dodge very well, are predictable, and almost never hold fire for the right section to become exposed.

I agree, but what I see mostly now is lights taken out by lucky high alpha shots. Maybe that's because most people carry those nowadays anyways :-)

True, but without the speed "shield" lights (and most mediums I believe) would really be unplayable. I mean, what else do they bring to the table right now ?
Recon ? Sure, but only in Alpine and maybe Canyon. The rest of the maps you don't really need recon. If you go recon in a light under 150k, you are pretty much dead immediately when you see the enemy since you have very low armor. Recon in a fast medium is suicide anyways since you can't run away, maybe pop from behind a rock quickly, but you also do that in a fast heavy.

This would be a good start. The only medium I feel that is about right in the size department is a Hunchy, but even it feels a little big.
Ive been running my mediums a bit more lately to try to get ready for an in unit thing we have going, and I will say this, PUGging in a medium pretty much sucks right now, as most people know. There are going to be some naysayers who say "they are fine", and "they do great in them", etc. To those guys I say, get your ELO up, and play with better people, and you will die quicker.
When I play with people I know, a medium is possible but only a single one or you will gimp your team. They are just far to fragile, and until PGI makes some changes that actually curb high heat and high alpha boating, they will never get better. Even if you bring SRMs back at 2.5, one good solid hit at 100m, and your either toast, or will be toast on the next shot.

I would much, MUCH rather have a gameplay where we would have more than two extremes - super fast or super heavy firepower. Because otherwise mediums will ALWAYS be worst mech class.
There needs to be more to mech choice besides speed & firepower.
Perhaps the fact that with more firepower also comes more amor (as we progress up the weight) is to blame.

If the drop is 2 lights 2 meds, 2 hvy and 2 assault, mediums are fun. (On each team).
If your team has 2 mediums (cents and hunchies with low max speed especially) and 6 heavies, and the oppsing team has 2 lights, 4 heavies and 2 assaults, mediums suck.
Because you have no equals to fight, and can't possibly do the light mech job.
Oh, alpine and my 81 kph basic cent as the fastest mech on the team, on conquest, keeps frequently happening!
That really sucks and makes me not want to play a medium.
I think mediums suffer the most from lack of max team restrictions.
I love them, but they have no place in 8s and suck if 75 percent of the enemy issignificantly heavier than you due to the matchmaker seeming to put mediums and heavies on one team, and lights and assaults on the other.
Barring a better matchmaking algorithm, I think a 10 percent earned cbills bonus would go a long way.
(Or maybe 5 percent on heavies, 10 percent on lights, and 15 percent on mediums). Nothing that forces yoh to play a class you don't like, but rewards you for choosing meds if you also like meds.
Meds are fine against balanced drops, but lack aa truly unique role.
(Max company weight restrictions in 12 v 12 will probably help in 12s.)
