I actually like all these changes... Except the weight-based ones. I know Fup said watch out for the neckbeards (I can't even grow a goatee ffs) but there are plently of variables you can change to balance weapons without touching weight or crits. Those should be last-resort "we-are-literally-out-of-*******-options-at-this-point" changes.

Also, PPCs getting splash? Are you mad? You remember why missiles don't deal splash damage anymore, right?

The splash mechanic in MW:O seems broken.

Here are two other way to implement spreading damage:
  • Don't allow group fire for weapons that deal "too much" damage in a single shot. PPCs, AC/10s, AC/20s, Gauss Rifles. A server enforced 0.25 second delay could suffice.
  • Double the rate of fire, half the damage and heat per shot (maybe afterwards allow a 10-15 % heat reduction, because losing so much alpha damage potential hurts). Suddenly a mighty 60 damage alpha is only a 30 damage alpha... You can now repeat it 2 seconds later, of course, but will the enemy be still in your sights, and the hit location still be reachable then? And can you actually land two solid shots in 2 seconds?
Only really good shots will retain the precisision they have now if they need more shots. And actually, even a good shooter cannot stop hims enemy from torso twisting, and might be put into a situation where you simply can't shoot where you aimed at on your first shot. But I bet most people (aim robot might be excluded) won't be able to do it. And those that still can do it deserve it.

Small/large slots, end of balance discussion.

You cant stuff a ppc in a mount for medium lasers, thats clan tech.

And when Clans come, it will be just fine that Clan players will build alpha strike boats and we don't need to worry about that, right?

Your end of the balance discussion just means: "I don't want to deal with future problems that can already be anticipated now."

yea, I've got to throw my hat in with the 'sized hard points' ... It's ******** watching a spider run around with an er-ppc that's half it's weight in tonnage. It's embarrassing that my 'most effective' cicada is the 3m with ECM and dual er-ppcs cruising around at 130 and cherry picking components, but that's the way the game has to be played right? You can still be 'customizable' with restricted hard-points, they'd just be more realistic ... IE no cramming AC20 or Gauss in slots meant for machine guns or smaller ballistics. If you start out default with an ac/10 you should be able to upgrade to gauss or ac20... but come on, if it starts with a machine gun, the highest ballistic you should be able to cram in there is an ac 5 or uac/5. If you're loaded with medium laser slots to start, you could upgrade to large lasers but not ppcs because you're still functioning on the same basic premise of weapon type just higher energy output or whatever they explain it as. Honestly the only time you should be able to cram 'extra' ppcs in, is in the example of the ppc Awsome where it's specifically built to hold them. Am I the only one who used to only see ppcs -rarely- in the old school games and older computer games? And then it was 'OMG look out for that one it has a ppc!'

Damnit would people quit harping on the PPC. It is already too hot and barely comparable to the Large Laser in overall usefulness/effectiveness.

The PPC balance is probably too much.

I would like to try 7/3 or 6/4 first.

Other than that...

Why do the neckbeards always want aiming, the single most game-breaking feature that exists, but they never want anything else changed? Because they are stupid.

Or maybe they are strawbeards?

I don't know how many neckbeards really exist that fear certian changes. I think the simple reason is why changing weights can be problematic is because PGI bases its mechs on stock configuration, and changing weights could lead to over-weight and under-weight mechs, and that is just wrong.

Next thing you tell me you can build assymetric Catapult loadouts.

Clan will be out when? 1-2-3 years from now? Better deal with current problems first then with imagined future ones.

The neckbeards are coming for you. I can hear them. Their pitchforks are sharpened and ready.

Some of the neckbeards are PGI though you know.

And go through the entire phase again. No. There are solutions possible that are future proof, and I dare say, they are no more complicated then the idea of altering the complete hard point system. Don't waste time implementing another first you know will fail later.

And on my pessimistic days, I think Clans will never come, because the game will be dead by then. But I am probably overvalueing the importance of game balance for the official release of the game, so I will not take any bets.
