I am wondering what the hardpoint layout is for the standard variants and read up on each mech on Sarna.net and eliminated those that have tech that does not exist at this point in time or just hasn't been produced yet and came up with my own guess/wishlist as to which variants will be provided with the package.

1. Locust.
LCT-1S: 1e (CT) and 2m (arms). Upgraded model that doesn't sacrifice the already flimsy armour.
LCT-1Vb: 1e (CT) and 4e (arms). The previous and this one is the only one that varies enough from the base model to really bother. Besides 5 energy hardpoints would be awesome.

2. ShadowHawk.
SHD-2Hb: 1b, 2m and 2e. A slight improvement over the base model.
SHD-2D: 1b 1e and 3m. These two have only minor variations, but virtually all the models of the ShadowHawk don't exist at this point in the timeline. There are literally just 3 or 4 variants to choose from.

3. Thunder Bolt.
TDR-5sb: 2m and 6e. Replaces the 2 ballistic hardpoints for 2 energy.
TDR-7se: 1b, 4e, and 1 ECM. This would be the first heavy mech to be able to equip an ECM in MWO.

4. Battlemaster.
BLR-1S: 6e, 4m and 2b. Nice flexible hardpoints on this one.
BLR-3S: 2m, 7e, and 2b. Not sure if this one keeps all the energy hardpoints as the description was vague. The Battlemaster is much like the ShadowHawk in that many variants are just minor changes or are not available at this moment in the timeline.

A lot of those are just minor variations on the basic model adding little things like heatsinks or AMS while taking away some hardpoints. If the current mechs are any indication with how customizeable they are, the Project Phoenix mechs can only be chosen from 2-3 variants from each chassis.

Yea you are right.
Thats the reason why we have CPLT-K2 but not K3(Upgraded to PPC to ERPPC and DHS)

I am wondering this as well; I got a battleboner the moment I heard we would actually get a Thunderbolt in the game...but I am not dropping 80 bucks on mystery mechs. PGI needs to cough up the specs on the standard variants (including engine size limitations) before I am willing to spend money on them.

QKD-4H and QKD-4G, or how about JR7-D and JR7-K, both of these are just minor variations and yet, they are in game. heck if you take the time you can find a bunch of mechs like that, minor variation from one to the other, but with hard points they change it up (or sometimes not). Point that I'm trying to make is lets not dismiss these other variants until we see a PGI post telling us what we will or wont be getting, which will hopefully be in the next ATD. I'm just hoping they don't add some variants that are nearly identical while leaving out a design that does mix it up (BJ-2, HBK-4N, DRG-1G and DRG-5K for example)
