Game has a total of 4000 (or whatever seems decent for 12v12 or 8v8) tons per team,

Re-spawns
when killed able to choose from any mech you ready up prior to the game (4+?)
game goes until a teams tonnage reaches 0 or cannot drop another mech ie 25 tons left and nobody has a 25 ton (or less) mech to drop.

selecting a 100 ton mech reduces the total by 100.
Opposing teams can only see the tonnages they destroy

IE we spawn 4 atlases we see we have = 3600 remaining and we have killed 4 atlases so we see they have 3600 remaining.

possible base (A dropship maybe?) with turrets to help the defending team if they get pushed back to base.

Secondary objective : destroy the dropship - as to deter base camping with the defense turrets

I believe this style of play would remove a lot of the issues we have now, If you die it isnt the end of the world and it gives mediums a place as you have to lose your Hunchback twice to their atlas once.

Can adjust your play-style to counter what the other team has so making a varied build is more beneficial to specialized. Once you kill somebody they know your build and can counter it.

I like the idea but it seems like a really, really easy way to grief teammates by just suiciding repeatedly in an atlas.

Also, 4000 would last a really really long time.

And all the bad players will burn your team's tonnage up in 4 wasted assault mechs... That bit of the mechanic makes this sound only viable in full teams with no pugs... probably. But more game modes would be nice at this point regardless of that sort of issue.

While it is an interesting idea, I think this would be better served if the limit was introduced on an individual player before they dropped.

200t total weight with 4 readied mech bays. This means you can have 2 Assaults, 3 Heavy/Medium, 4 Medium, 4 Heavy/Medium/Light, or 4 Lights. That implements a tonnage restriction based on the number of respawns available to the player while not forcing the player to play a mech they do not want to.

That system would work nicely in both the competitive and casual scenes.

If you want a deeper system, it should only be enforced at the Merc gameplay system because at that level, you should expect to be ready to play mechs that might not want to give other members of your team chances to play in other types of mechs.

Why have the resource limit then, if you're just going to have a tonnage limit with limited respawns for each player?

available respawn tonnage should be based on resources collected by the oil rigs. now you have a real reason to defend and capture vs just a vague win/lose at 750

How about make the game mode available to 4, 8, and 12 man premade teams only and/or give each lance its own tonnage pool. This would cut out the potential grief almost entirely as suicidal lances would only hurt themselves rather than dragging down the entire team.
