How do you require a certain number of players to add a tonnage launch limit to 8 man groups?
If you aren't playing 8/12 mans, why are you even caring?

Some sort of bonus for the lesser used weight classes might be a good way to separate those who only use heavies and assaults because everyone else does from the people who use them because they really want to. I wouldn't mind testing a more solid weight limit in the matchmaker with the beta test server though to see how that goes.

In less than 12 hours from now, everyone and their mother will probably be driving the new Hero Victor (Dragon Slayer) and to honor that day, I'll probably start trolling in a Highlander (done grinding Quickdraws) in anticipation.
So... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

I just wonder what its hardpoint layout will be. I think somebody already pointed out that at least one of the Victor variants (not necessarily hero) is going to be able to do dual Gauss + dual PPC with plenty of armor (it's also going to be a much tougher AC/40 than the Jagerbomb).

Twin Gauss & PPC with Awesome 9M speeds... an assault that moves like a heavy with better punch than most of our current assaults. Youch.

Denying it does not make it any less true. Mech fans are already here. Catering to you and your over 30’s and not GAMERS will never bring in the players. Not out to get me, but out to get YOUR money. LOL

If this game was hurting so badly for new players you wouldn't see the amount of trial mechs you do now. Simple as that.

1. Are more fun to play due to their kill-kill-kill mentality (lights and mediums need to worry a lot more about manuevering and positioning to survive)
2. Can withstand more alpha strikes before dying
3. Can dish out larger alpha strikes
4. Are bigger (people like overcompensating, particularly Lyrans)
5. Get paid more due to better killing power
Tonnage limits don't solve any of those issues above, unfortunately. Tonnage limits will just make the fatties wait in que longer while they wait for brave lights and mediums willing to be their canon fodder.
Said like a true space-poor
(joke if you missed it)
But seriously... If it can carry more weapons, dish out more damage and take more damage, then people will use it. At least with traditional MMOs they at least try to have a sembilance of ballance with paper v.s sissors v.s.rock with DPS-Heals-Tank. MWO dosn't have that.

I'll probably drive a Victor when it is released on the usual day.
All I will say now though is... RIP Awesome. We hardly knew ye.

I'm not convinced tonnage restrictions will actually bring more mediums to the battlefield, however. I do think that most teams will end up having to go from 6 or 7 Assaults to only 4, but the 4 other mechs are more likely to be Jenners or Ravens than they are to be Hunchbacks or Centurions. A few more changes in gameplay like the upcoming Movement Redux would definitely fix that, however.

The ratio of trials to regular mechs is a bad sign. That means you're seeing more people who are not likely to stick around (and why should they with the current "25 matches of getting your face kicked in" introduction to the game) than you are people who have stuck around.

One could argue seeing an abundance of non-trials is a bad thing too. Such that there are no new players and only older ones are sticking around. Anyway, they said they're doing fine in player numbers right now so I'll take their word for it over an angry forum goer like Funk.

SWG And CoH said they had good numbers also. We know what happened to them.

SWG completely changed their combat system, something not even comparable to here as this is not even finished, and CoH was a game that lasted for nearly 10 years... your point?
