Combined with the alpha heat penalty and the 120% heat threshold for damage (which imo could be made slightly more punishing, but back on topic) - a minor PPC and ERPPC heat nerf would pretty much fix boating of them

Firstly it would encourage people to take PPCs rather than ERPPCs which gives you more options for fighting a boat (ie get up close, or far away), and secondly while a minor heat nerf wouldn't affect 1-2 ER/PPCS *too* much, it would cause 3/4+ ppc boats to start to suffer badly.

Combined with the alpha heat penalty, this pretty much means we'd see boating them fixed due to the heat constraints, or we'd see them boats forced to chainfire ~4 ppcs which is also much better than the high alpha meta we have going at the moment

Making a fun mechanic not fun isn't the solution. The solution lies with making high DPS builds move viable by increasing speed so that brawlers can close into range faster and increasing armor so that when they do close they aren't half dead.

Or getting LRMs and spotting to be a better option. Snipers require LOS but not all maps have invincible cover like River City. A Raven 3L who is mildly competant at remaining undetected can sneak to a sniper, spot them, and let the LRMs rain. A sniper is naturally strong vs a brawler who has to get into range. But Snipers cannot always hide from LRMs and the sneaky mechs who spot them. LRMs supply the suppression the brawlers need to get in close wthout being attacked.

It's proper Role Warfare, PPCs need to be toned down enough that other builds are viable, and when they do I expect LRMs to kick in to supply suppression and lights kick in to supply the targets, wherin the brawlers march into battle. It's a nice synergy that I hope the devs are trying to get right behind closed doors. I really do hope they are. Once role synergy in, we'll be having some of the most exciting matches around.

Adding a little heat to (ER)PPCs, and tweaking TAG a bit would help (longer duration for the effect, shorter range). Maybe fix whatever it is that's wrong with NARC, so scouts would start mounting it again.
