You missed the part about them adding them as NPC only. Also it isn't a fact they are going to be adding this stuff, rather it is just an idea they are tossing around.
Personally I think it is great but the PvP purists are going to hate it because it will add a PvE component to the game. For this reason will probably won't see it happen.

Perhaps for tournament play it could be toggled on or off.

Oh I agree, especially if they net XP and C-bills. Also it would make for some cool scenerios like an Escort game mode where you have to escort a mobile command post across a map. One side has to destroy it, the other defend it till it gets to the other side.
Would really love more military-like scenerios and less Solaris tournaments.

i was wondering the same. Last I heard the Devs toss ideas about, was Bryan blue sky mining during closed beta about al the possibilities, like Melee combat, etc.....
if it's been revisited, I would say it would point toward a strong likelihood of inclusion.
Link, please?

3rd request here.
I don't recall them saying they're adding in AI controlled infantry, tanks, and helicopters.

It would be cool to see a couple different mission types alongside escort though.
Canyon would be killer for an escort match. Restrict the attackers by tonnage, so maybe one lance at 350 tons.
Tourmaline could be a scavenger map. Attackers would be escorting a salvage vehicle to several parts of the downed dropship to get salvage, and have to the vehicle back to base to get the salvage worth. Probably give them a couple salvage trucks. Defender would trying to find survivors, with a points bonus based on how many surviving crawlers they can get to an extraction point.
Frozen City would make a good Lostech Cache capture map, aka King of the Hill. Make this up to two full lances at 400 ton max.
Frozen City and the alpine map with a bay could both be CSAR matches. One side would be going to capture/kill the downed dropship/busted frigate. The other team would be going there to try and rescue the downed crewmembers by holding the point/securing the zone for a CSAR VTOL to swoop in and get the members/cargo out of there. This one would be a 250 for attackers and 400 for defenders/CSAR.
Alpine Peaks(the winter mountains one) could be straight base defense. Have one base, but with two forces vying for it. No limits on forces.
Maybe have River City be a point defence. Keep the resource points as they are, with Epsilon having some structure placed there and Theta moving to either the bridge or the statues by the building. Attackers would get points for what they had left at the end, with some points worth more for them. Defenders would get points based off what they kept, with half points for retaking something. Points would be worth different amounts from the Attackers and should ideally change between matches, along with the names of the points. Poss points could be Comms Outpost, Aerospace Spotter, Mobile Command Post, and Supply Train.

I see it listed as"In Concept Stage*, but no ETA" in the upcoming content tracker.

they SERIOUSLY need to streamline this site. Their "improvement" just spread stuff even worse.
Also, Updated Content Tracker, Ask the Devs, etc, should all be perma-linked to the home page, with the latest stuff on top, so that one doesn't have to dig for info. (or go to Twitter or Facebook, darnit!). Ease of access and transparency would go a long way to smoothing stuff over on here (and quash a lot of rumors and nonsense).

Also, NPC LRM boat popping would be a great (and extremely important) task for little mechs like Locusts and such. Not as shiny as popping PC mechs, but if it keeps the rain of lurms off your team's heads, that's freaking important.

However, personally I love it becasue my greatest disappointment with MWO was that it doesn't have any RPG or Story elements to it. Adding in NPC vehicles, battle armor, etc would be the ideal way to add roleplay, story and depth to an already good PvP game.

Like Fighting Hordes....2 team of 12 fighting hordes of clans mechs, vehicules, battle armor and ect... while defending a base.
for the ones that doesnt like PvE...they would be the PvP that you could choose.
I guess it would help a little on retaining players to this game.
+ AI would be suprising....since they can learn our weakness in our formation. You can see it in numerous game that the AI can adjust toward the player they are fighting.

I suppose it's rather hard to implement infantry (frogs would be a better choice because they actually pose a threat to mechs, aren't super tiny targets and are fewer in numbers) but tanks/defense towers and maybe even choppers shouldn't be too hard to design and implement. It would IMO add more to the game than features like close combat ever would.
