Dunno if there is maybe some server-side bug or something but I was in combat with my 6 small laser jenner when I died. However, the message said the cause of death was overheating, however I had about 80% heat on my heat meter and rarely went over 100%.
Possible causes:
1. Desync between server and client heat
2. I took heat damage and that somehow trumped the damage I was taking from opponents when it came to determining cause of death (i.e. think of a flag being set and then never being cleared)
3. Heat meter displays beyond 100%

desync, simple. System working as intended but you had a small spike in ping, or a packet got lost for a second.

nope, flawless connection. I don't live in Pullman, WA where the university internet causes that to happen every 3/4 of a second

Flawless connection, sure - but the connection has a long route to travel. Plenty of places to where it gets lost.
What's your ping? Unless its exceptionally low its susceptible to having trouble.
