I know that swapping parts on laptops can be tricky but I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.

Currently I can only run MWO on the very lowest settings and get 15-22 fps (Usually more like 15-19). I've tried using programs like Game Booster and OverDrive to boost performance but I'm wondering if there are any hardware swaps I can make to get the fps to at least a consistent 20.

When running the game my task manager stays below 60% in all categories.

Here is my computer:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its probably bottle necking on the graphics side. My laptop is A8-3520M with an AMD Radeon HD6620G+7670M which is slightly higher specs than yours. I'm getting FPS ranging from high 40's to low 50's in the Mechlab. Variable FPS in matches as it really depends on the maps where the FPS can range from 51+ to 14 in battle.

Graphic settings are on low with AA off and running without any user.cfg or other file modifications and running DX9. Haven't been able to get crossfire to run properly yet.

Only suggestions I can think off is to make sure that:-

1. Graphics are set to run at highest performance regardless of power supply
2. Disable Ultra Low Power State
3. Assign mechwarrioronline.exe and mwoclient.exe high priority and make sure it runs on all 4 cores.

Could try overclocking the graphics cards but I'm a little uncomfortable with that as the laptop already runs pretty hot when playing MWO.

You can try running GPU-Z to see whether your GPU is running flat out while in the mechlab and in a match. If it does, this confirms that that's the bottleneck unless your CPU also pegs out at 100% for extended periods while playing.

Have tried DX11 but am waiting for more optimization before switching to it permanently.

The fact that you can run MWO at all on that laptop is amazing!

Secondly, laptops are very difficult to upgrade, its simply no worth the time and money to try. If you want MWO to run better your going to have to buy a far better computer. There is simply no way around it.

Try updating your graphics card drivers to the latest 14.4. It improved the performance of my system.

I have a four year old VAIO running a nvidia 330m with 4gigs and an I7 Q720. Would not run the game for a year without serious heat issues. Last week i spent two hours pulling the thing apart, cleaning the radiator and replacing the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. Now it runs at anywhere from 40-50fps on the lowest settings.

Good suggestions all. I had similar issues getting the Wifes' lap top to stay over 25 fps. Best help for her was adding more ram but as your on 32 bit OS thats not as practicable unless you upgrade that as well :)

Any possibility of freeing up CPU cycles should be looked at. Most of what I can think would take a huge effort but in addition to the above consider:-

Newer faster HDD - a SSD being the best. (Which if you did that you could consider going to 64 bit OS and freeing up more ram in the process)
Running MWO in an environment with other stuff switched OFF. Game booster does a decent job of that but I assume you have remembered to disable Anti virus and other background scanner aps etc to possibly free up some CPU time? If you want to go full potato even consider a dedicated HDD partition with a clone of the OS but no added aps (other than maybe game booster & a VOIP client of your choice)
Bare minimum: Get the best cool pad you can! I have a decent Zalman built one making like a hovercraft motor under the Wifes' LT when she plays MWO.. it really does help!

Exactly what DocBach said. From what I understand the new GTX 750 cards pack quite a punch for very VERY little money. Be on the lookout for good deals though... I found my AMD FX-8320 processor for $110.00 at a random computer shop while on vacation in Virginia.

Some background- I started playing this game on an i3 laptop with 4 gigs of RAM. Decided to build my own gaming PC and did so over 3-4 weeks. I bought things piecemeal until finally the day came when my graphics card arrived (the last component). I plugged it in and it was one of the cooler feelings I've had. I highly recommend it to anyone. Building a PC is so much easier than most assume it will be. You can easily do it from a youtube video.

If he is upgrading from a laptop he is going to need a monitor as well.

Overall I agree. the cost (both in headaches and money) of "Upgrading" your laptop is going to be much more that building a new system. I'm is a similar situation: great laptop but business graphics.

I'm in the same boat. My asus k52jt can run on low settings with 16-20 fps. Looking for a desktop now.
