I've mastered the four other variants, including the X5, but I can't seem to really find much useful to do with this mech. It's too big, but still can't carry much firepower. It's hardpoints are uniquely suited to being terrible against lights, and only effective against heavies and assaults with stripped armor. The Spider 5K functions much better in the role of MG crit machine, because it's actually difficult to hit and has jump jets.
To the complete surprise of no one, I've managed to have a few effective matches when I stuck an ac20 or gauss rifle on it.
I've tried large laser + lb10x+ 2xMG.
I've tried UAC5 with ERPPC.

Its because the good MG from Battletech was lost in translation, along with the LB-X.
If you were to load up MW3, right now, and pack on 4 MG's or some LB-X sniper cannons, you'd see how useful they could be.
Cicada also suffers from that enourmous CT and getting in close with those 3C hardpoints is sad times.

Ballistics are a bit of a problem on a light mech.
I can't think of an obvious build for the C3 myself.
Probably the best would be dual AC-2's, with a single medium laser as backup. That is what I run in my BlackJack (with 2 AC-2's and 2 ML), and AC-2's actually do a bit of damage, especially if you can keep the range up high and get all of the free hits you can before the fire back.

The MG in Battle tech was never any good, it was just a big ammo explosion wating to happen

Use the ERPPC and 4 machine guns.
MGs aren't as bad as you think they are.

If they let you mount two machine guns per hardpoint you could carry eight machine guns....

1 large pulse laser and 4 MG's. i see people regularly score above 300 damage with it. Just run in circles around your teams assaults, keeping them guarded.

Prior to the Jump-Sniping influx I used my 3C as a 'Sniper' albeit a low power sniper. XL280, ERPPC and AC/2 - surprisingly effective and fun for a 3C anyway.
ADDED: Now that MGs are actually better the build listed above may not be as fun. +1 I'm glad MG's actually motivate me to move now.

Yeah the MG's are actually pretty decent. If anything, I wish I could cram in more ammo without needing to go to an XL engine.
I frequently run out of ammo most matches.
The single ERPPC or Large Pulse is best, backed up by the MG's you actually make a great flanker / harasser.

Sorry, I tried supporting the assaults with a large pulse and 4xMG. Unfortunately, it requires assaults that aren't trying to be l33t snipars or full out Rambo *******. You have no idea how difficult that is to find.
Basically, this variant completely depends on having 2-3 assaults and heavies on your team who work together and who aren't f**king stupid. That's way too many conditions for a single variant to deal with, given that almost every other variant of this chassis can accomplish the same thing, while also being viable as a solo mech.

The 3C is for those players who want the challenge.
