Chances are a lot of things are actually done in internal development and will not be rolled out till closer to launch... it would definitely not be the first time something like that was the case for an online game that looked barely playable in the open beta. Then POW! Suddenly, a full game.

Wish it was as you say. But almost a year to commune with this game and strange (at least) the behavior of developers makes me doubt it.

Numbers! Statistics! Dates! Launch Date? LAUNCH DATE!

As you may have read, we're extremely excited to announce MechWarrior Online's official Launch date of September 17th, 2013! We've been working hard these past months, and we're extremely excited to be able to publicly announce our launch date!

You can read more here, and either way, we'll see you on the battlefield!

Cheers,
The MechWarrior Online Team

Sounds good....

Just hope it's ready.

For instance the current Terrain and Jump Jet issues, and hitbox wonkiness still need serious work. But all in all, hope it takes off!

I'm sure they will be addressed. Only way to test things is to get it out there first.

Why don't you release it a week earlier? That way that day won't be remembered as a day for conspiricy theorists and horror, but as the day we finally (officially) got a new Mechwarrior game.

I really hate to say it but, I never was much interested in Star Citizen until one of my clan mates bought me a cheap pack for the alpha and beta access about a week ago. Needless to say, I started digging into exactly what it's going to entail and exactly what the premise is.

All I have to say is holy information overload. Compared to MW:O the amount of information about what's happening behind the scenes and how development is going is unreal. It doesn't mean that they don't still have to meet those goals development wise, but they give you plenty of screenshots and video's, as well as detailed information to let you make up your own mind.

Not to mention they are pretty damn open with the community. When has PGI done an active livestream about the development of the game? Not them playing their own game, but actually going into detail about the development of the game and how it's going.

The problem here, with PGI is a lack of communication and an overall lack of common sense or actually caring about what their community wants. About the only time they care is when it could potentially effect profit. Star Citizen simply puts MW:O and a lot of other games to shame in the communication and community department. We don't actually need to see the gameplay elements of Star Citizen to know that MW:O puts itself to shame in regards to actual gameplay.

Yeah. PGI/Pirahna are so secretive I wonder whether we've been playing vaporware in an insidiously deceptive corporate conspiracy to take our money for nothing, and even that is buggy. Heh. Seriously, how open and transparent is it to run a free open beta while they develop the game? They could have left us all hanging out to dry on the forums all this time, but no: we've been banging away at one another the whole time they've been developing the game and Im glad to have had the opportunity to help them fund the project. Sure there are problems, but transparency isn't one of them.

My suggestion is to significantly lower the default ELO of brand new pilots: walking into a firestorm of death and destruction is not the gentlest of wakeup calls and there is only so much the vets who happen to have an 'average' ELO and drop with them can do. We are to be pitied... down 7:1 in the first three minutes, surrounded, and all the opposing force can think to say is how pitiful he is as he falls in smoking ruin.

Launching on my birthday, nice!

As others have said there's still a ways to go, but it seems to be on the right track! :)

Just listened to the relevant portion of the podcast and want to share the highlights with those who aren't able to listen. Russ states that it's possible clan mechs will be introduced similarly to the project Phoenix program "We've thought about it. We don't know for sure. There is a reasonable chance. We have a process now right? We did it with founders, we did it with Phoenix. It's a great way for the community to say 'we want a top notch mechwarrior product'...it's feasible. Right now, there is no plan cooking, brewing." Clans will be worked on after all other major features are completed. "We've got our plates so full, to get this game launched. To get these major features that we are launching in 2013. Clans are not the priority. Once we get those major features done, clans are the next major thing. The 1:1 timeline in the universe is dead as far as Russ is concerned in terms of setting deadlines for features to be done. "My opinion is, the timeline was interesting at first, was kind of cool, but it's not a driving factor anymore. Its not a very important aspect. Its more important to have a quality game" Russ admitted that CW can't be worked on fully until UI 2.0 is finished "Community warfare is heavily reliant on UI 2.0. If you think about all the things we are going to be doing with factions, and everything else - it's one thing to spend all the time building those into a user interface that we have currently that is going to be completely rewritten or is incapable of doing it properly...so it's added some extra time before we can get these features into people's hands. But we are just trying to do everything the right way." 12v12 should be out within 30 days "All I can say for sure is it looks like 12v12 will hit in July. We are within a week of public testing. We should be testing it internally tomorrow. ...We are within 30 days or so, maximum, of getting that into public hands. UI 2.0 hopefully before launch (Late August, Early September) "Really trying to get that out before our late summer launch." CW will come out in phases and more depth will be added as they go along "Community is definitely going to come out in phases. It would be best to let Bryan speak to it, because I can't speak to it as well as he can. It's going to come out in several phases so you will have stuff this fall for sure, and then more depth will be added."
Awesome consolidation of information. I wonder though why are they pushing September launch if many of the finished game features are not going to be ready by then.

Your idea of openness and transparency are very different than most people I assume.

You are already launched. It's not a beta if you are taking peoples money.

All this negativity is disheartening. Thanks for the game, the closed and open beta, the statistics, and the release date.

You make it sound like they did it out of the kindness of their hearts. They SOLD beta access. PGI isn't even sure what they are doing, so how can they be transparent when they themselves don't know?

Then what would you call SC I wonder? (Not trying to troll, but I am honestly not seeing much difference between how MWO handled it and how SC says they will handle it.)
Not to mention this is hardly the first example in the world of people buying into beta access (cannot think of any off the top of my head except maybe WoW...)

Virtually every single game nowadays has a paid option to enter into beta type scenario, well, the games I play.
Arma3, flight sims and some other fps. Even EA have promotions where you can get early access to their games.

Happened before MWO, will undoubtedly continue happening.

I'm shocked with the prices in SC. Founder packs for 2000 US dollars? Name a star for 5000 US dollars? A simple manual costs 20 bucks. Ships for 50, 100, 200 bucks...

MWO has a serious problem with communication (which needs to be addressed ASAP or you'll see everyone leaving the game), but please never call them money grabbers again and then point out SC as a shiny example.

Pretty much.

PGI, unless you have been holding things back for months (which you shouldn't do, because you have never once launched a new system that didn't have massive bugs), there is no way you are making Sept. Unless you drop most of what you actually want for your "launch" (which i should point out, is bunk. The game is free to play and available to pay for. You don't get any more launched than this), you aren't going to make it.

Its so depressing. I wan't, more than any other game right now, a GOOD MW game. I want something that makes me feel the enjoyment i had playing MW2/Mercs/3.. I want a community to play against. I want this franchise to live. But at this stage... PGI is not the company to make that happen. just about a year of active play, and aside from some new mechs (which have been intentionally held back in a staggered release), we literally have the same game (sorry, Assault x5 isn't a new mode). You think you are going radically change the game in two months? Good luck with that...

SC is 100% crowdfunded. All you need to pay for is the $35 minimum pledge pack. Everything else will be available in game with in game credits. The reason they are selling stuff at higher prices is to give people the option to donate more money and get something cool in return.
