typical bronze level forum post.

Pleebian's

Can you refute his points? I find that pulse lasers generally aren't worth it either for pretty much the same reasons as the OP listed...the shorter beam duration doesn't seem like a good tradeoff. I shy away from small lasers but I'd rather have an ML than an MPL any day. Likewise with Large.

FFS don't get this thread K-towned. I'm interested to see why DV8 disagrees with the OP.

Small pulse lasers are great at brawling. Same weight & slots & DPS as Med lasers but with less heat per damage and shorter beam duration. Big sacrifice in range terms but if you're a fast light this doesn't matter too much.

try 9 small pulse lasers on a hunchie, its brutal and good on heat only draw back is the range but you get to feel like a Rogue going for the quick murder in the back.

@OP, Unfortunately that math only works if you have the slots for 2 extra DHS. Pulse lasers have their place.

They need to almost double the range of small arms weapons. small las/SPL/MG/Flamers etc.

90m is practically melee range.

... I didn't omit the shorter pulse duration, I stated it was irrelevant.

You might have meant to mention that it was irrelevant.. but you forgot to mention it.

Also, I think the shorter duration does add some benefit because shots are started when you have a clean angle, and they stop dealing damage either 1.) when your beam leaves the target or 2.) the beam is complete. A 25-33% reduction in beam duration will help deliver a greater fraction of your lasers' damage when you are taking a "fleeting" shot such as shooting a fast mover that will only be within your reticules' range for less than a second or for when you are running past a target.

And, yes, this post is a fast mover that's pulsing to the beat of K-town's heart.

Actually, you're the noob. Most brawling in the current meta is between lights. End of.

Btw if you think 25% shorter duration is meaningless, your opinions meaningless. Make more spreadsheets.

Yeah, its not worth the 100/25% weight increase though. Small Pulse is the best, rest are ****.

When you can't get a clear good hit at a target, you don't fire at all, and keep your heat for a better opportunity. It's not like the battlefield isn't a target rich environment...

If you have a light circling you, most competent pilots should be able to keep thier torso centered on the light for a good 180°. I do it with a stalker, and it's far from the most nimble mech out there (might be dependent of your engine, however, something like a 240 won't allow it). Sure, you won't have the damage focused on a single subsystem. But if you're bound to spray it around anyway, what do you care if the spray last 0.75 or 1second? The end result is the same, damage spread on 2 or 3 subsystems. Shorter beam duration is useful if you're waiting for the target to pass through your beam. But that method has been made obsolete by HSR.

This is clearly not worth the additionnal heat and tonnage.

If you want a proof, you just have to play a few dozen games, and see how many players use pulse weapons.
