Hello Mech - Community!
I am part of that class of people that all the veterans in games love: Newbies :)
So as i registered for the beta (who would take me for the Beta anyway i havent played one MechWarrior yet :( ) I started reading the Forum and filling my mind with information. Now as we should be Beta Testing i have already something to say about the Website. Its very well made and appealing but with one drawback. I think its quite slow witch is bad for a Forum. Especially the Wiki is killing me :(. Which brings me to my point:

Do you know a Site where the Mechs are listed by Factions or somehow simmilar to this: http://www.eveonlineships.com/ (Sorry about Link that is about another game, but i dont really think somebody wouldnt play MechWarrior because he is playing EVE instead )

I know the mechs are not all confirmed but maybe you know a site that is constantly updated or a site that has the Mechs from the old games in it. Many of them are in MW:O from what I understood.

Oh and also MW:O seems to be based on some background story. I have read the summary of the factions and it gives a slight overview but not enough. I want to know which faction to play for :D ( in which faction would Austria be I wonder ?).

Thank you for your help and i apologize in advance to the player that tells me to read the forums etc. instead of spamming it ;D

Edit: Didnt say why i want to play MW:O. Well i played plane fighting games and loved it. Then i played a tank game and got addicted. Now MW:O is just a logical step forward :D ( also looking forward to World of Battleships ^^)

There are no factions ingame yet. With future updates, they might implement faction warfare.

Your best bet for info site is MWO wiki

Welcome to the world of mechwarrior.

The best single site is probably http://www.sarna.net/, but based on your post, you have already seen that one? It'll give you an overview of pretty much any mech in the game.

In terms of listing every mech type, that site will do it.. but I don't think there's any single big list.. mainly because there are far, far more mechs than there are ships in EvE, for instance. The game's been around for decades, so the number of mechs has grown over time.

www.sarna.net is the best place to go for all of your 'mech-related needs.

Most 'mechs aren't relegated to any one faction; there are some designs that are more favored than others, but very few exclusive types. And even those don't stay exclusive for long if they're a good design, as rival factions will capture some and then reverse-engineer them.

The general 'Germanic' faction would be the Lyran Commonwealth. (It's also where most of the Celts ended up, due to it's incorporation of the Republic of Skye.) Of course you could always just go Lone Wolf and fight for anyone, or join a Merc Corp - the Browncoats are always looking for a few good 'mechs.

Welcome to the forums and the BattleTech Universe! :)

Well when you say wiki I don't know if you mean you were looking at http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Page but that has pretty much everything mech related, links for all the games, backstory and such. There are also novels set in the BT universe but I am not an expert on those.

Welcome to the insane aslyum; please don't doodle on the ceiling of your paddy room with your crayons. Some of us here do that and it really disturbs the keepers.

For generic information you'll probably find the best place is http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Page, and there are quite a few pinned topics around here...

Including this one, which is for newbies and everyone so they can know their stuff when it comes to battlemechs: http://mwomercs.com/...y-an-education/

EDIT: HERE! Found it. This will sort by faction for you: http://www.masterunitlist.info/

Thank you for the fast posts i see the MW:O Fanbase is probably more hardcore than the Star Trek one :). I havent seen sarna.net yet the wiki i saw was the one that doxy posted (the painfully slow one :(). So from what i understood you are not limited to a faction neither is the faction limited to certain Mechs. So actually is there any difference between the factions? ( Other than background Story)

I think what PGI are going for is every faction will be able to pilot anything, but pricing will be different between factions based somewhat on the mechs a faction would typically use versus stuff they would rarely have. There will likely be other things tied into factions, gaining ranks and rewards etc., but so far we don't really have any idea what those might be.

Well, depending on your preference for RP or not, then no, there really isn't that much difference between the factions. The only thing we know of, is that 'mechs that aren't common in whatever faction you choose may be a bit more expensive then the common ones, but that's really only speculation anyways. :) Welcome to the forums, and also keep in mind, that the FRR has many Scandinavians and Germanic people as well :(

The biggest difference really is the background story. Folks tend to like one particular giant robot army over another, based on stuff that happened in the timeline at some point. There is a mountain of source material from the game, as well as dozens of novels written on the subject matter.

From a gameplay perspective, the developers have announced that particular factions may provide you with certain advantages, such as price reductions on certain mech chassis, but the details of those things have yet to be ironed out (or at least, have not been made public yet).

On the most basic of level, the different main houses boil down to this:
Steiner - Space Germany
Federated Suns - Space Britain
Draconis Combine - Space Japan
FRR - Space Sweden
Liao - Space China
FWL - Space America (Maybe? They're kind of a mishmash of a bunch of junk, but that's kind of what the US is, so whatevs)

Oh i have thrown an Eye on the FRR dont worry :). I mean how couldnt i considering the best Metal has its origins in Scandinavia ? However the corps are something like clans? So can you be in a faction and Corp at the same time? But i guess i am asking to much questions that i could find out myself by reading all the news and stuff in the dev-Blog. TBH i have only read some Newcomer Topics and a general overview of the game ...

Hello, random new person.

I assure you that the Battletech (BT, for short) fanbase is every bit as nerdy as the Star Trek one, if perhaps slightly more militant (or is it militarized? Both probably.)

The factions are each made up of hundreds or perhaps thousands of different worlds with their own heritage and culture. Each of the factions however do have a sort of over-arching "theme" that fans embrace (or stereotype that opponents promote.) Many people simply look at the symbols and choose whichever one they like the best.

Battletech is very much connected to its ongoing story, so take the time to read up on anything that catches your eye. There is easily over a million words in print, so places like sarna.net will be your friend.

Welcome and have fun.

Corps are organizations or units (akin to fleets, guilds, etc) They can serve a specific faction or be unaffiliated. There really isn't too much to go on at the moment. But the official launch isn't too far away.

No, BT used to have space america - that would be the terran hegemony, which is long gone.

FWL is probably better tagged as "the balkans in space.'
