When a mech impacts a solid surface it's speed drops to 0.

When a mech impacts another mech It's speed drops to 0.

You may now be caught and held in place by another mech, With rudimetary team work this can assist allies in lining up shots at close range while you struggle to figure out what is going on.

Apparently coating our selves in oil before the match has gone out of style.

We once again have a mellee option. Not the Knockdown, but the Pin.

Not yet, but I am interested in seeing the mechanic in action.

When knockdown returns I think you will see two things occur. If both mechs are around the same tonnage and are moving into eachother at a slow speed a pin will occur. If both mechs are significantly different weights or one is moving much faster then the other, one mech will be knocked down.

Purely speculation but would be nice to see.

The old 'run into things and knock them over' isn't going to be in the game again. We saw how the Devs liked getting trolled and bowled, they didn't like it all, no one did. It was exploitable by team mates and enemies.

What they will keep is reduced speed from impact (so you're not clipping through Mechs). Even MW3 did that. They'll also have collision damage most likely based on speed and tonnage, or jumping on someone. So you go full speed, run into someone, and cause damage, reduce their speed, etc. I forsee them, maybe, adding actually getting knocked down by momentum and getting hit by a huge gun at the same time.

I'm not talking about what mellee should or should not be.

I am talking about our mechs being coated in glue.

I am talking about the highly exploitable and likely unintentional ability to pin and hold a mech trying to evade shots in a brawl (allowing your friends to make full use of the AC/2) or retreat with their group.

I'm saying you don't get to retreat back into cover if an enemy (or even ally) is standing close enough to you.

Use it on Enemies to win. Use it on Allies to troll.

That PPC stalker on your team getting on your nerves? Or you just don't like PPC stalkers in general? Just have to "back him up."

Atlas trying to go solo? Just send a light to reign him in and tell him where he can't walk.

Your options are with this mechanic are limited only by the limits of your creative sadism.

I pinned a Cicada. Felt dirty, but it did the trick. I'm a bastard like that.

An Awesome stepped up onto a hill to take some pot shots. I stepped behind him.

I know he tried to back up. To dodge some of the return volley.

But he was stuck motionless. Floundering helplessly.

He died like an 80 ton armored kitten in sack.

I might not sleep well tonight.

Several times, when an ally decided to step behind me. Enemy shoots in my direction, I walk back, get pinned and hit.

I'm not perfect, once in a while I step in the back of a retreating ally, too. But then I'm usually quick with the reverse gear which seldomly seems to happen when someone blocks my retreat. :)

A variation of the same happened to me.............River City, after learning that I can no longer climb the "clearly marked" trail next to the bridge in an earlier match, decided to go across the bridge. A friendly Hunchie tried to pass me on the bridge resulting in my being stopped right at the first "support tower" as you enter the bridge. Hunchie left, Razor stayed stuck in place, couldn't go forward or back.............enemy started a base cap, tower prevented LRM launch, no direct line of sight for direct fire weapons (then there was the whole bridge support thing again) either. I spent the game launching the occasional LRM strike against targets of opportunity until a nice Atlas and Highlander from the enemy team came over and gave me a Gauss / PPC *****.

WTF? Enima spelled properly is censored in Canuckistan?

Was there no way that Mech could have proceeded forward, turned and then retreated, at all?

That whole "Floundering helplessly" sounds like a new player perhaps.

Been stuck several times by terrain and other mechs. Its pretty unnerving when it happens. When stuck on terrain just backing up doesnt seem to wrk most often. You have to turn a 180 and walk out of it. Jump jets rarely help.
