Edit: Only twice has sentient life made an appearance. One of the novels in question (Far Country) is considered apocryphal.
I had completely forgotten about the Swamp people, however they were less rejected than birds with spears...

While there is ONE book with the mention of an alien species in it, the rest of the books have been largely void of any aliens of any kind. This was likely intentional, so as to keep the same "feel" of the universe intact. The closest thing to "Aliens" in the books now are just the Clans.

There was one isolated incident. It occurred in one novel on a planet that is rather impossible to access.
There is a general understanding that aliens will never be introduced again. Never. In fact the novel in question (Far Country) is considered apocryphal
Not true. There were aliens in The Sword and the Dagger, and they almost kill Ardan Sortek. Furthermore, the novel states that there are several other discovered alien species, but that humanity just, generally, has nothing to do with them.

Really? Did not know this. Probably because TSD is one of the few novels I haven't read.
*Goes off to do some research*
EDIT: Ah totally forgot about the swamp people.
