I do not believe "fixing" convergence is actually going to balance the game at all. Right now people claim people PPC boat because they can put all their damage into one spot. To that I say that convergence will not fix the problem. The real reason people use PPCs (well at least me) Is that PPCs have no firing duration. Now they are not instantaneous travel weapons so they do require leading to hit the target but it does allow me to fire while on the move and know that all damage from that individual weapon will hit the same spot. The same will hold true if more is done to spread weapon damage out. After weapon damage is spread out more, each PPC will still do damage to the same area of the mech versus lasers. The other advantage is once my weapons are fired I can begin to shield my mech with my arms from more incoming fire. Really I think PPCs will always be a heavily used weapon. There are also several examples of mech's having enough heat sinks to contain the weapon heat. That isn't to say a wider spread of damage from "fixing" weapon convergence wont help, it will giving brawling mechs more of a chance to get in close. Even then I think that PPCs should still be boatable, seeing as several mech designs both clan and innersphere are based upon boating PPCs. If players really want to see a more diversified spread of weapons, the duration of laser damage could be reduced. This would also make sniping easier for newer players who are not use to leading weapons.
TLDR: Reduce laser damage duration, Slightly decrease weapon convergence (not to the point of being random), Ensure that heat values are within reason to allow PPC boating as described in cannon
