PVP=highest possible direct fire instant damage, preferably with pinpoint accuracy.
We need more weapons capable of it,not less (i.e. buff srm damage).
Vomiting laser rainbows only worked because crap ppc-s and srms' short range and again stalkers. Former brawling meta wasn't more fair or wasn't more balanced, it was simply more exciting and action packed than hill humping, but it still revolved around 55-98 alphas to one component. So poll is meh, people like big guns and big numbers, fairy-tale domain "mixed" builds will be obliterated by specialised builds, all other things being equal. Nerf ppcs it will be dual gauss or 6 large lasers again. Give more choices, not less. Also whiners gonna whine, but MWO _is_ a shooter with all the nice and ugly bits as well, you can't make minmaxing go away.

Yet I see fairy-tale domain "mixed" builds topping the team charts each and every match in the games I play....go figure.

I play whatever I'm leveling. Once I have finished elite, whatever config it had at that point it keeps. With this wacky leveling system where you need three to advance one, I hate having duplicate weapons on the same chassis. Sometimes it ends up being a HIA build sometimes not.

HIA = High Instant Alpha

I have read - several times that players a bored to hell to drive the same PPC High Instant Alpha Meta - but they have to to stay competive.

But that means if nobody would drive those builds you would be free to fight the fight you want. The build that you enjoy most.

Maybe you all could stop at a specific time, doing that.
Maybe marked by PGI with another challenge = like dealing 200,000 to 10,00 dmg with nearly every weapon system during 14 days.

So see how the minority of players - reading that forum thinks?

Let the shelling beginn....

Valkyrie is with me - for BattleTech - for Skye

There are a TON of people running 'high instant alpha builds' that plain out are terrible. I and a couple teammates in a 4 man last night ran a Cent, A muromets, a jagermech and an lrm HM. We often destroyed 4 PPC stalker lances with good positioning and focus fire.

The mets and I were running 3 UAC5 builds. The Cent running ac5 +some ML and an Ac5 .. All DPS builds without terribly high 'alpha' ratings.

High Alpha does not = WIN. Actually hitting what you are shooting at = WIN.

Eh... depends upon what you mean by "high-alpha boat."

1) I usually have multiples of a weapon on my mech if possible since that makes it easier to aim and group weapons, but I wouldn't consider 2 or 3 medium or large lasers a "high-alpha" build.

2) I do have an LRM boat I bought recently, but it's an Awesome 8R, so I can hardly be accused of playing an overpowered mech. It does toss 45 missiles at a time, but you kind of need to do that to make a mech focused on LRM's.

3) My Jagermech "boats" ballistics, though I won't put a pair of Gauss or AC20's on it, but that's what that mech is designed to do, so again, it could be considered "boating," but it's not a cheese build.

In the end, I'll always try to minimize weapon groups for easy of firing and use weapons that work, but I'm not the type to play a Jager with 2 Gauss or 2 AC20's or a Stalker with 5 PPC's.

This thread is being moved out of MetaGame because the term MetaGame is meant to refer to the Economy, Territory Capture, Faction Loyalty, and other aspects of the game that transcend actual combat.

I'll place it in Mechs and Loadout.

Of course, when we requested the creation of the metagame forum back when GD was nuked, we were asking for a place to discuss exactly this. PGI promptly misunderstood what was meant, whether intentionally or not, and now there is nowhere to talk about this sort of thing, it's all spread between the various forums.

Do you really wonder why Metagame is a ghost town forum when the discussions in it are limited to the topics you list, all of which are of no consequence and are totally uninteresting?

I have a twin-Gauss Phract that I usually use during team matches. It's never the highest alpha Mech in the battle, but nor is it a low impact build either. With a fast engine and JJs, it does suit my playing style.

I feel I have a responsibility to my team not to reduce their win chances by taking sub-optimal builds into battles with them. But that doesn't mean I will take 5PPC Stalkers or AC40 Jagers for the sake of it.

Other times when I'm soloing I experiment much more with loadouts. This is generally more fun, and gives me more rounded experience with different weapon systems.

I drive an Awesome 9M but I don't consider it a HIA mech because it is designed to play that way. What everyone else is doing is cheese cause none of it is stock.

Metagame is literally the discussion of what tactics are prevailing and what other tactics are arising to counter them. That is the way it is in every single competitive game, be it starcraft, guild wars or mechwarrior. What are you doing?

Everything you listed does not exist in this game. Perhaps this forum section is an error? Maybe it should have been created when CW shows up.

For that matter, the fact that PGI and/or their representatives do not understand what "metagame" IS speaks volumes about their approach to game balance.

Ran some 8mans with my friends last night, straight brawlers...steamrolled a bunch sniper teams, was AMAZING! So many PPC Stalkers dropping an alpha on me at less than 80 meters, shutting down, powering back up just in time to die.

Sniping with 4xPPC works great alone so it's an easy meta because you never really have to rely on teamwork, but brawling requires a team to coordinate. A team of snipers will always lose to a team of brawlers so long as the brawlers stick together and don't cross the open.
