Do clans use currency? From the books/lore, there was no money for them (ok, for the warriors, don't know about merchants).

I think they will take some kind of loyality points, just like we will get them for CW and house standings. Maybe they go deep into the clans and you have to compete in a trial for a new mech, who knows? But i doubt we'll see such creativity, at the end you'll need to get those 30 million c-bills...

Honestly this would be a nice depature from what we have not. My biggest disappointment with MWO was that it has no story or roleplay aspect behind it. It would be really nice in my opinion if you had to join a clan then earn your way up the ranks and into better mechs rather than just spending C-bills on them.

There'll be a Clan pre-order package for sure. Probably the best way to get some Clan mechs. ;)

I suspect that the very nature of the Omnimechs will make it affordable. I don't think that we will have to buy 3 versions to master an Omnimech as there are no alternate versions just alternate configurations. An Atlas has the D, D-DC, K, RS, etc and the Daishi is just the Daishi with it's alt configs using omnitech. Instead of buying 3 Atlases at a cost of close to 40 million cbills, you buy one Daishi for just under 30 million.

Looking at some of the costs of the MWO mechs, the Cataphract 3D is being sold for a price much less (9+ million Cbills) than what is quoted on Sarna.net (13+ million Cbills). So I guess PGI might break canon on a case to case basis to make mechs more reasonably affordable. Another way is that supremely high costing mechs should not be bought in 3s but only takes one mech to bring to elite or master, so you only have to purchase one. However, that feels like a kludge. Even though Clan mechs are omnimechs, slot sizes may still be controlled in size, even if they could house ballistic, energy or missile, so it limits the size and number of weapons. Different Clan mech configurations can also come with different engines, armor as well as preloads, and some slots may not be totally omni at all (MW4 doesn't go full omni in many Clan mechs). The slot system in MWO is already botched and makes existing mechs already semi Omni in practice.

For me, one of the disappointments in MWO is that there is no locked mechs or weapons that becomes unlocked after you achieved a certain level of experience or faction prestige points. In other words, sort of like a tech tree that you have to work upward with. But then again, this probably makes the game simpler at the cost of immersion and role play.
