Hi. It's all a bit confusing in the beginning. So maybe you can help me make the mech i want?
I'm looking for medium or light - "fast runner."
Which should have good short range weapons and the NARC system.

(Dream scenario: it has the AMS also)

Thanks!

Well the Raven 3L is pretty good, it can take ECM which is almost certainly better than AMS for your purposes, and it can take some good short ranged weapons. NARC is currently one of the worst systems in the game, you're much better off with TAG and putting the extra tons towards weapons, armor, heat sinks, or your engine.
Try this site, it simulates the mechlab and will even tell you how much your final mech will cost.

All you need is here:

Don't take away your own fun and let others build your mech!

Use the smurfy to make a mech first, once you've figured it out, it will tell you how much in terms of cbills you will need to both buy the mech and upgrade it to that point.

Forget the NARC btw... bring a TAG... if you are using a light or medium with speeds over 100kph AMS is not incredibly useful. Useful yes but not like Big Fat Atlas useful.

However, don't ignore others' kindness in sharing good builds while you learn what works... And by all means, once you select a chassis, take the time to unlock the mech trees for 3 variants - speed tweak is a game-changer for lights.

I find that the Quickdraw makes a good Narc platform. I run a 300 XL with 4 medium pulse lasers, a LRM-10 with a ton of ammo, a Narc with a ton of ammo, and 15 freezers, the rest going to armor, oh and 5 jump jets. It's been fun!

Good to hear man, that mech can be a lot of fun with Tag or a Medium Laser and some SSRM2's or Streak SRM2's, just make sure you put Streak ammo in and not regular SRM ammo!
