As a scout im my Raven I give sitreps of what I encounter and due to special situations via chat. But response or reaction is merely poor. Best solution is something very short on team-chat. "B2 - 3 hvys" attains mostly a fast reaction by the team. InGameChat ist a problem on its own. Steering, firing, staying alive and besides typing a message is a bit too much - better would be an instant voice-chat also for PUG's.

Being a Fire Support till role those who call targets usually get my LRM'S. Good advise thou keep in mind if alot of targets are called i'll decide priority and let other callers know. No joy on your target. Also its nice to know if we are hitting for effect not just some. So feed back is nice.

i place a BAP on my spider and it worked well on a blob advancing with ECM. our LRM where having a hard time holding locks until i decided to close and dance inside the blob. it lasted about 5-6 salvos. doped that ECM nicely at great personal risk.

Well I run a brawler D-DC and brawler 5m as my primary mechs. So i don't call out lrms or ppcs. I do go to the side that is less protected though so that we don't get rushed. No i dont just run alone to one side. I always ask for support and tell them why. It rarely works but i am almost always able to stop a cap/baserush or hold off their larger targets before i am overtaken. For example assault on alpine my entire team went to the theta side. So i asked for backup and went eps side (caps are my best references). I told them i really needed backup or we could lose to cap. No answer. I call out 6 targets. 3 atlases, 2 jagerbombs, ppc stalker. I told them the location and everything and said i would hold off from engaging as long as possible for their arrival. Not a single reply or rgr or single mech of backup. So i engaged a jager as he crested the hill infront of me. I took out his side torso (xl), then the next jager (side torso, dead), then an atlas..... I knew i was dead considering my critical front armor across the board and i was very far from any support. I torso twisted all that i could and then used my speed (64.2kph) to run as far as i could. He has a stock or close to stock engine and very short range loadout (same as mine 3 srm6, ac20, 2 medium lasers) so he could barely damage me. Mind you i was holding my left arm to his side so he couldnt backshoot me. I ended up running all the way to my team who has decided to climb the mountain on the side near the enemy base. We returned to the enemy from behind. We engaged. We lost by a landslide. I was instantly killed by their ppc stalker. All of our assaults were totally horrible, heavies were not good enough, lights weren't capping but were nowhere to be found. So how am i to deal with it. The game ended and i had 492 damage (highest in lobby which is sad) and the closest team damage to mine was 230. WTF??? the enemy team said they felt sorry for me being put on such a bad team. IDK if my elo is that high or if they were all good but they were working for the other team. (i doubt my elo is that high. im good but not amazing) but either way i worked to help my team as much as possible. I didn't get a reward and that is the reason i play in mostly exlusively 4 mans so i dont have to pug drop anymore. The incompetance is saddening.

I usually unleash the greatest weapons the FRR has at it's disposal, Pug Support. Upon issuing such a call, hundreds of pugs stream from every corner of the map, converging on enemy mechs. "But Reod, there are only a maximum of 16 pugs a match, and 8 of those are hostile!". Right you are, though those are not the pugs I'm talking about, I'm referring to real, honest to goodness pugs, vicious feral little critters that swarm enemy mechs, their constant snorting and snuffling destroying the concentration of even the most experienced mechwarrior. Should their attempts at breathing fail to distract the pilot for any reason, they throw their little bodies into the joints and servos of the machine, clogging it with their own pulpy remains, leaving the mechwarrior paralyzed. I myself have seen even an almighty Atlas downed in such a manner.

THAT, my friend, is what real Pug Support is all about..and it's what the clans will face when they come for us, the vat-born savages.

Anyone who's dropped in a team with me must get sick of the constant chatter.

I've noticed a definite correlation between wins and losses based off chat.

If the game ends in a loss, 99% of the time my lines will be the only talking in chat for the whole game.

If it's a win, then I glance at chat and see that at least one or two others were also commenting or responding.

Usual things I talk about are which direction I'm headed (filing a flight plan basically). Calling locations of enemy mechs, calling loadouts. Asking for specific high value targets to be focused. Strategic locations to take and hold etc.

Sometimes I probably talk too much, but its always annoying when you feel like you're throwing words into the void. Like "4-5 enemy mechs coming in fast from B3". You then try to hold the line to give the team time to reposition and respond to the threat. You die, and watch in resigned disbelief as not a single person turns to watch the flank and gets rolled up handily.

Then the game will be over, and you hit launch again hoping that next time will be different ;)

^^ I try to say sumptin' useful or I'm completely useless. I tend to get suckered in cuz little mechs make me go 'grrrrr' :ph34r: . Then I realize I've chased the lil'****** into their front line heavies and watch chunks of my armour go flying through the air... {insert appropriate Oooh's and Aaaah's here :blush: }

I'm kinda glad they have the 'how you fell down and went boom cuz yer stoopid' video at least I get to see how cool my camo was.

I run a spider for scouting as well. At the beginning of each match, I ask the team if there are any LRM boats. If there are, I go scouting. If not, I go scouting. I am a scout. that's what I do. I let them know where they are and I then move on, either to cap a new resource target, lead the enemy to my big boys, or find the enemy LRM boats. Once everyone is engaged, I start harassing the enemy any way I can. I use counter ECM off & on, and run by strafing through groups, hoping to have them damage one another with friendly fire.

I'm suicidal, and I die alot, but I also enjoy my role very well.

Nonononono, the "not tanking damage for your team" is the ******* part of playing an assault LRM boat.

he wasn't in an assault mech, he was in an assault match

Maybe I'm missing something because of my complete lack of programming experience, but I'm not sure I understand why it is so difficult to integrate a voice-chat feature for PUGs...

I'm just wondering.... when I'm in my spider and have solid lock on a target I go to chat and say "requesting LRM support on F"; it works quite well, but does anyone else do it? I have never ever, ever, ever seen anyone else say that. Most people just leave it up to the LRM boater to spot tagged units or are left with guessing which targets to fire on.
If we help the support units, they help us win! Right?

Who else calls out or requests support things like LRM's or PPCs to punch out ECM's?

Would be great if there was a shortcut button for it with Betty stating the request for fire support on the map location and maybe make it flash on bigger letters somewhere on the screen and not the chat box. :P

Betty: "Fire support request received for target on D6"

If they want a little more immersion they can hire several people to do 'mech commander' voices to help coordinate the match or allow us to buy pilot voice packs for those commands.

The only other thing I can add is that, if I'm in the middle of getting my left leg blown off...again, I'm not really paying attention to the text messages on screen, and they tend to vanish just when I have time to read the bloody things. Can we please stop doing that PGI? Just leave them there?
