Some of them were playing stock Mechs, so I guess some of them do prefer some classic builds.

I also heard "No one has BAP?" "What's that?" "The thing that cancels ECM." LoL... yes that whole hamstrung missile shield, big fish 'thing.' Some of them didn't have BAP, obviously, because some of the Devs prefer the 'classic' builds where hard counters weren't a 'thing' and they just 'worked.'

But hey, the Devs can play their game and try to have fun as much as the next guy or gal. I'm still going to point out that the game is definitely imbalanced on several fronts. It's just what they plan to do about it that worries me.

Well, did the PGI players use builds that were truer to the longstanding lore of battletech? Are "competitive" players using PPC boating as an "instant win" crutch rather than really attempting to challenge themselves by using balanced builds? Is abusing an imbalanced game mechanic actually helping with the beta phase of this game?

Ofc it is.We are helping them with showing how imbalanced some mechanics and weapons are....problem is they do not give a *** about it for more than 3 months...

This.

When Russ Bullock is saying idiotic things on Twitter like "You are an island, the game is in its best state ever" when people ask him questions about the current raft of problems, yeah, then the solution is to spank the ever loving crap out of them whenever they play with the most broken aspects of their game.

And, frankly, if the players whipping their ***** were telling them how terrible their current game balance is at the same time, even better.

Sorry PGI, but PPCWarrior is just boring.

This.

I like how the op suggests good players only run garbage boy builds.

If you run a garbage bulls and can win despite it, you are great.

But if you run a garbage boy build, and continually lose, then it just means you are bad.

Normally I would agree with the sentiments of this thread.

However, Paul has already made a post saying that he has been on holiday, that changes have ALREADY been made to remedy the situation and that they simply need to be added to a build and pushed through the QA procedure.

On this basis you could demonstrate some patience and not be quite so harsh.

Paul has been on holiday for 4 months now. He doesn't have a damn clue as to what needs to be done.

If ya good enuff you dont need to use broken weapons :)
Skilled players allways want some competition to be able to say: i even didnt use Broken/Op weapons and still kicked their arrs.

Btw its funny that Balanced Loudout means Garbage boy build in ya eyes. Cheers

EDIT: i didnt suggest anything

You're right. They actually work well at driving people away from the game. They do it perfectly well.

They even didnt get one kill out of 10-15 matches. Reason?

Pgi guys were saying over voice comm this funny stuff:

"PPcs are disgusting"

"Paul your game is inbalanced and broken"

Lets see how they ll nerf the ppc´s

now they probabyly saw how incredible effective or Op ppc´s are and these so called elite Players only use that broken Op weapon.

Pgi dudes used balanced loudouts like all fair and real good players use but the ennemy team was using cheezy Loudouts like hell. Cheers to the so called "elite players" or competitive Loudouts".LULZ

Yes our team (SJ)currently boats PPCs in 8 mans because to not take it would be gimping yourself in the current meta. With that being said though our team has been good in all the different meta changes during the course of this game. We adapt to how the game changes and we role with what is best. That's because we 'play to win'. Which is what a "competitive team" tries to do especially in an 8 man when we are trying to get better as a team and build a synergy among us.

We also actually played for like 6 hours that day in the 8 mans and won every match but 1. We have results throughout the past metas.

Now onto PGI dropping into the game. They said over the coms that "they weren't that good" and "they don't play as much as we did". If you noticed they didn't focus fire targets, and they didn't stick together as a cohesive units. In any meta against an organized team you will get rolled if you do that. Also they took builds that where not "well balanced" like a "real player and fair player does". That "fair player" concept is your ideal and the key word is "your" there. If you put up a block in your head calling the "elite players" unfair / unreal (IE a scrub) then you have put yourself into a mental corner. If you want to get better at the game roll with the meta and see what you can do to beat it. Eventually you can get so good a that meta that you will find new ways to beat it, or find its unbeatable with any other strats then hope that PGI fixes it (which they already said they would push more balances this month).

Sorry for the wall of text.

P.S: that 4th match against PGI we took s*** load outs (caustic valley conquest) that where super mixed up. We still won 8-0. Benefits of experience and teamwork in an 8 :)

Ofc iam in the mental corner of being fair by not abusing a broken Weapon. Play ya own game. Iam not in need to use a broken weapon.

Edit: The current Meta allows me pretty much to use a fair loudout. Iam doing pretty well

We had two mechs out of the bunch you would call cheese builds. They scored a whopping 250 damage that game. While our missile boats, laser jenners, and a ctf 2x that actually had an srm on it scored right in the same ball park. So it wasn't the massive damage output by those guys that carried us lol.

I really hope the community knows what they are doing. From my vantage point, PPCs are not the main problem.

Yes, they are a problem due to not producing quite enough heat, but that isn't the overall issue with this game.
  • Pin Point Convergence/Missile Patterns
  • Relaxed Hardpoints
  • Incorrect Heat Scales/Penalties
  • No Tonnage Limits
These are the generic underlying issues with this game, not PPCs, Gauss Rifles, or LRM boats.

PGI devs don't have to be good at actually playing their game.

Their balance team (aka Paul?) just needs to understand it well enough to identify what makes something powerful or weak and how he can tweak things that they are appropriately powerful and balanced.

That doesn't mean they'd make good tacticians, or good shooters. To get that,y ou need a bit of talent and a lot of experience playing the game, and they are more busy programming the game than playing it.

I agree with what you say but everything points to that they don't understand the game. And bringing foeces builds just further demonstrates that.

Weren't you in that thread where single heatsinks were discussed and some developer build like a two MG, two SL cat or something like that was used as an example of singles being viable?

Good. This kind of complete annihilation is necessary to speed along balance changes. In fact, I wish people would start doing this in the NGNG streams as well.

Olympic swimmers don't wear boxer shorts during competitions "to have a challenge". They trust they'll be challenged enough by all the other well trained swimmers they are competing and don'T need to handicap themselves.

Good players adapt to the meta. And in M:WO's case, that often means adopting the meta.
Good players smell meta changes coming and are the first to figure out the new broken builds.

You know how you recognize good players in any game - they stay on the top, no matter what the FOTM or the current meta is. Sometimes that means they'll use the FOTM, sometimes it means they invented it. sometimes they might decide to avoid the FOTM and the current meta and try something else. Usually when they are bored because the game is so imbalanced that there are too few viable and competitive builds.

And no, I am not one of those good players. Just good enough to realize my many shortcomings.

We are not in olympics nor we earn money by playing mwo. The only thing is to have fun i´d say. At least for me

BTW Ronnie O´sullivan played a full championsship with his weaker arm just because he got bored and wanted a competition. Iam not saying iam as awesome as O´sullivan but still there are even sportsman who give themself a disadvantage just to have fun agin by a new competition

Edit : O´sullivan is a Snooker player

Zyllos, I agree that there are many other serious problems with the game, lack of tonnage limits being high on that list.

I don't think, though, that PPCs cannot be fixed simply by adjusting values. The mechanic for convergence, hardpoint system, heat system, etc. don't have to change to make the PPC good at what it's supposed to do (snipe) and bad at other things (shorter-range engagements.)

I'm not saying that changing those things aren't a possible ALTERNATIVE to editing its values, but it is simple to fix and PPC is the most serious and urgent problem, so the simplest solution should be applied.

250 damage is chump change BTW. If I dealt that amount of damage in a match, I would not be satisfied.
In fact, I will laugh at PPC boats dealing mere 250 damage per match.

You know... I'm all for voicing concern and even inciting discourse when it comes to this game and our critique and criticism.

Sadly, this community has taken this to an extreme... I get it. I get that you are frustrated, I get that you are disappointed and I get that you feel as if PGI is essentially ignoring you.

That said, apparently it's not enough to state this plainly... Apparently every comment must be dripping with contempt and laced with caustic levels of vitriol.

It's extremely disappointing that it's viewed as being justified to behave like a bunch of ingrates when having the opportunity to play with / against the devs...

I'm not going to play apologist for PGI... They've clearly been their own worst enemy... That said, This does not in any way excuse the bullyish behavior that seems to be the new maxim of behavior if you disagree with the state of MW:O.

I don't understand the logic... One one hand, you demand PGI to be more forward and involved with the community. Then on the other hand so many of you treat them with such contempt and disdain... Not real sure how you think this will encourage community interaction but I assure you even professionalism has it's limits and I think you've long exceeded it.... And before anyone proclaims it's our right as consumers to act like raging jags... We don't and no the customer is not always right.

I know this little commentary falls on deaf ears, will net me plenty of flames and will not amount to a hill of beans. That said, I'll feel better having said it...
