The term "Firepower" sounds like it sums up the offensive capabilities of your Mech, but it doesn't. It doesn't take damage per second into account; it is simply the added damage value of all your weapons when you fire them all at once. It is just burst. I think they should re-evaluate how it is calculated.

Or am I missing something here?

It is just a number... why should they recalculate it? They have to pick some number to use. Should it be DPS with all those decimal points?

I dunno. It is just disheartening to see it drop from a mighty 60 to a puny 28...

Imagine how I feel in my Catapult A1 where the number says 45... but I know that is a complete lie!

My Dragon rates a big ol' 11, but let me tell you, those 3 AC2s get the job done.

You know, sometimes.

Fire power just means how much damage you can do with an Alpha Strike. An alpha strike is when you fire all your weapons at once. So it doesn't take into account things like range and as you said rate of fire. An AC2 is much more powerful than a small laser, yet a small laser has a base damage of 3 while an AC2 has a base damage of 2.

If you use Smurfy's mech lab http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/ there's a sustained DPS statistic. Though I think it just takes into account your firepower and cooling efficiency.

It sums up the total amount of damage you can deal if you fired all your weapons once and they all hit their target. Strangely in the case of machine guns and flamers, it seems to sum up the damage you'd deal in 1 or so seconds.

UI 2.0 is planning to add dps, etc. stats for you that you can pull up at will.
