what if Paul's hands are tied by someone else who wants things a certain way, and that way is a bad way, but they have more power and say so, and are foolish and demanding?
Big company, lots of employees. Blaming Paul is like blaming 1 fruit on the tree - you only blame him because he is the obvious one to blame, and his position with PGI.
Maybe another is the real culprit behind the bad decisions everyone here is hunting for.
In regards to the last sentence: it would be helpful to actually work WITH the community and also show some transparency.
I guess no-one would blame them if they can't change much with one patch or lag behind their self proclaimed timeline, considering the small amount of employees. People would actually understand.
The problem here is that they're somewhat working AGAINST the community (or at least simply not giving a damn) and either don't share any infos or just promised garbage at 99 % of the time.
A simple "Sorry folks, we would like to make this game great, but actually IGP is taking all our money and pushing us around at their will!"
Again: Problems solved - people would understand (but of course PGI seems not to be allowed to make this public).

Any balancing of the game needs to be driven by the knowledge of the most competitive players, who, patch after patch, balance after balance, almost immediately find catastrophic holes in the game's mechanics.
Haha.
"Hello good sir!
I'm, sitting on a pile of bazillion dollars and run multiple major companies with many employees.
I'd like to secure my IT environment (servers, network...), but instead of hiring professional and well known hackers from the scene I chose to leave the job to a first semester IT student."
GG!
