Two solutions -

1. Lobbies.

2. Indicator of who's grouped and who isn't so that you can set your lobby to solo-only or group only or whatever tickles your fancy.

I can quibble about some of your details, but I generally like the idea of a solo-only/PUG queue. However, with the advent of the 1PV-only/mixed queues (with a 3PV-only queue on the horizon) along with Community Warfare not that far off, I don't think it would be good for the overall community at this time. Maybe a year from now.

You play a team game alone. It's going to suck. Deal with it.

Right, the pro players use all the lame 'Mech builds because lone players never boat at all, right? Right?
The whining has made it a pain in the arse to actually try and play as a group by producing this stupid 4 group 8 group nonsense. So your solution you're offering is to build upon the utterly ****** up system even further? Give us Lobbies or even better servers and this will be a non-issiue. Let's not worsen the current situation even more by fumbling with a bad system any further.

Ironically, if PGI had given us a solo queue instead of 8-mans, lonewolfs would be happy and groups would be happy. instead they implemented 8-mans and no one is happy. lol

OP is absolutely correct, we need a solo queue. Currently when I'm trying to level a particularly troublesome mech, I want some easy kills, or I just plain don't want to fight against other groups my only option is to drop solo to reduce my chance of fighting other groups, but it does not eliminate the chance. There should be a place for veteran players with 6-8 month of experience to drop with their 20m C-bill custom monstrosities against predominately new players in trail mechs.

The best part of the OP's suggestion though is not only will it make a new even easier easy mode for me, it means that any new player who has the audacity to try to group up and get away from these solo battle-hardened veterans will be immediately put upon by co-ordinated 8 man try-hards round after round, ensuring that they never try such foolishness ever again.

Mechwarrior is not and should never be a game for everybody, it should be for either anti-social c-bill farmers or large groups of well organised exclusive merc corps, but not ever for casual players who like to form quick pick up groups in public TS3 servers for a couple of round, these are scum bag exploiters and the game would be better off without them.

In case you haven't noticed, the majority of the players are solo droppers. I am not going to be the one to wait for 10 minutes.

Also, doing nothing is still more interesting than playing in the boring PPC meta--which inevitably happens when you meet a pre-made group. I prefer to browse YouTube while waiting for fellow solodroppers instead.

new game mode..... 16 player FFA, no teams, no allies, you take what you got and you drop against who and whatever else is in there with you. Last Mech standing wins. Assaults would be too slow to rule, lights would strafe and do hit and run, mediums would simply cause chaos and heavies would have to be very careful.

I believe senor Bandito is correct here. Also, MM is not really doing a great job as is, so loosen up the restrictions more to keep wait time down.

Interesting idea.

Lights might simply choose to hide until the last enemy is left standing though. The arena needs to be small and have less obstacles.

Perhaps similar to Clans' Grand Melee ring with full exposure.

Actually it really doesn't. Riot Games did a study for League of Legends to see how premades vs. pubs performed and found that premade teams at lower skill levels got next to no advantage whatsoever by being premade. Only at the higher levels of play does the ability to coordinate via comms come into play. Some noob teams are actually hurt by being on comms because they don't even have the fundamentals of the game down and comms is just one more thing to manage.

I would also challenge anyone who thinks that the average premade is coordinated to pop into the Outreach TS3 and listen in on some of the 4-man dropships there. Many times being on voice comms actually hurts your play because you've got people chit-chatting about things other than what's happening on the drop like recent changes to the game or different 'mech builds or whatever.

I think solo players who have never teamed up and don't know what the experience is like are blowing way out of proportion the advantages that teaming up bring and how coordinated the average 4-man premade is.

Upon identification of these advantages, we boost the pre-made’s rating to create a fair match, applying the appropriate, mathematically-justified adjustment.

  • 5-man pre-mades are only moderately stronger than solo queuers
  • Partial pre-mades have only a slight advantage
  • New players don’t benefit much from being in a pre-made, while experts benefit a lot
Why even match pre-mades against non-premades at all?
It helps the system discover skill rating much faster, so that players get fair matches faster. This works because if players pre-make teams, it reduces the amount that players win or lose games based on “bad” or “good” luck in relation to the team with which they are paired. If a player pre-makes, he joins up with people of approximately similar skill, and he is partnered with fewer random teammates boosting or impairing him, so his rating reaches an accurate value more quickly because more of each game result is due specifically to him and his friend(s), who are likely close in skill.
We want people to easily play with their friends because they will have more fun if they do, and we can’t have a 5v5 matchmaking pool of all 2 man teams, or all 3 man teams – there needs to be a mixture for it to work. We chose to include 5-man because it’s a lot of fun and the collected data shows that excluding this won’t improve the fairness of matches much at all.


Note that there are only 5 players per team so when they say "5-man premade" the analog in MWO is a full 8-man team that would be matched against solo players. We got rid of this due to the bleating so the equivalent of a 4-man MWO premade would be what Riot refers to as a "partial premade" which they claim have a slight advantage over a solo queuer.
