Assassination Gameplay
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Players: Escort Team vs. Hunter Team (12 vs. 12)
VIP (Escort Team): Automatically assigned to player with highest Elo rating

There are 4 extraction zones on each map, namely Delta, Lambda, Omicron, and Upsilon (these are shown as HUD elements similar to Conquest). These HUD elements have three states: Unidentified, Active, or Inactive. The extraction zones are spread evenly throughout the map and are named for ease of communication. At the start of the match, one team will be designated Escort Team while the other Hunter Team. The Escort Team will have one player automatically assigned VIP (player assigned will have highest Elo rating).

The mission of the Escort Team is to escort the VIP to the extraction zone. However, there is a catch. Only one extraction zone is active on the map, which is randomly selected at the start of the match (this random nature prevents this game mode from devolving into Assault). It’s important to point out that no player from either team will know which extraction zone is active. This is where scout ‘Mechs come in. They will need to quickly traverse the battlefield to find the active extraction zone by inspection. This inspection process takes some time to complete.

Once found, the entire team must escort the VIP to that location ASAP. Once the VIP reaches the active extraction zone, the extraction timer is triggered. In the event the VIP leaves the inspection radius, the extraction timer will stop (will resume upon reentering radius). If the timer reaches zero and the VIP is still alive, the Escort Team wins the match. Please note, when the extraction timer starts counting down, Bitching Betty will say to all players, “DropShip has entered atmosphere, ETA 2 minutes.”

The mission of the Hunter Team is simple, identify and assassinate the VIP on the Escort Team. The Hunter Team cannot visually identify who is the VIP until the ‘Mech is targeted. The Hunter Team will also need to send out scout ‘Mechs to determine which extraction zone is active in order to find where the VIP is going for extraction. If the Hunter Team finds the active extraction zone quickly, they can plan for a well executed ambush.

I want to reemphasize one key point; only one extraction zone is active on the map during the course of the match. This ensures each game is different and prevents the same route over and over again!

Victory Conditions
Escort Team: Escort VIP to active extraction zone & 2 minute extraction timer reaches zero
Hunter Team: Identify & assassinate VIP

Extraction Zones
Names: Delta, Lambda, Omicron, Upsilon
Extraction Timer: 2 minutes (needs to be balanced according to map size)
Inspection Timer: 30 seconds
Inspection Radius: 25 meters
HUD States: Unidentified, Active, Inactive

BattleMechs will automatically inspect the extraction zone when they are within the inspection radius. Inspection takes roughly 30 seconds to complete. In the event the inspecting BattleMech leaves the area, the inspection timer is reset. Once the extraction zone is inspected, the HUD indicator will change state from Unidentified to either Active or Inactive. A good tactic is to put pressure on the inspecting BattleMech so they leave the area prematurely.

I just really want to see some game modes with objectives that consist of something other than capping or killing.

nice thinking outside the current drudgery, but I feel it would quickly go back to it.

3 Issues:
a: If only one team has a light, they probably win- find the place and either rush it, or puppydog guard it. (Wow, been decades since I used that term..)
b: If the VIP is known, he'll get focused hardcore. (LRMs would love him) if he's not known whole team blobs towards extraction point to get him on it alive.
c: if VIP is a light mech?

a. Mediums can scout to a degree. This will hopefully shift the metagame to more Light and Medium 'Mechs on the battlefield. I don't think this is a very big issue as we already cap bases in Assault and Conquest.

b. Teams will learn to shield their VIP and use scouts to find enemy movement. They will also avoid direct confrontation, unless its a must. Also, there is only one extraction zone that is active, which will take time to determine (inspection takes 30 seconds). This will force players to split forces to cover more ground.

c. Skill is more important than weight class for survival. That's why the player with the highest Elo rating gets VIP.

I think this new game mode can work with very little refinement in my humble opinion.

New game mode; peace treaty negotiations (Time limit = 2 Weeks per match).

VIP mode is a bad idea. The VIP could troll the whole match by hiding, running away or not moving at all (what if he disconnects?), wasting the time of the other 23 players. And what if the VIP is coincidentally a 150 kph ECM Raven, and the rest of the players got Assault 'Mechs? Now, what a lame game mode would that be. Every 3rd game sucks, because the VIP was a 12 year old or because no one could catch the Spider VIP.

We need an AI in this game. Computer controlled entities won't troll other players just for the kick (Ai trolls only if it malfunctioned). An AI would be needed for automatic turrets, escortable vehicles etc.

The game modes should also be realistic. No Counter Strike bomb laying, no capture the flag and VIP mode sounds just as stupid.

How about vehicle Escort? One team protects a convoy of support vehicles, the other one has to destroy the whole convoy before it reaches a specific (randomized) point.

How about destruction? One team has to destroy a huge building, maybe a reactor or factory. The other one must defend it.

How about good old King of the Hill? The team who can defend the center of the map will win after accumulating 750 points or so.

How about rescue? A single pilot or officer crash landed somewhere, one team has to rescue him, the other must prevent it by capturing him. Or maybe kill him, but it has to be a little more difficult.
