I was thinking for a while now that PGI should try to incorporate different types of armor. For example armor that better against stopping ballistic weapons then energy and missile weaponry. Of course make different armor superior against different weapons types.
Also I wold like to see armor that has better and worse characteristics. Example of this would be heavier armor that wouldn't dissipate heat as well as lighter armor that conducts heat better.
I would like to hear everyone's views on these matters.

Blame PGI for picking a time period where balance is a nightmare IE IS vs Clan tech.
Where the mech diverisity is decent, but the cool weapons and armors and such are not available. If they set this around 3059. That would have been awesome.
Instead we lose out on so much iconic stuff from previous mechwarrior games we have become accustomed to.

Thanks for the replies.
Why does pgi think staying with the time line is so important? The mechs are not being released in chronological order. Game play is more important then a time line or the nonexistent story in game.

timeline affects what tech is around
if they started later on they would of needed to have clans already

The clan invasion is the single most exciting event in the BattleTech timeline. It's neither surprising nor disappointing that they chose it.

Although these games are similar they are their own game and don't need to follow the same time line. The clan stuff still can come later and still hold the same or similar flavor. Keep in mind this is not the board game and requires different skills to play.

It's all fun and games until you remember that PGI is going to seriously eff up the invasion. One side or the other is going to end up outright superior to the other (maybe even Inner Sphere being better if they get more numbers) and that's the side everyone will flock to (sort of like SRMs compared to PPCs).

They already torpedoed that boat and then depth charged it on the way down when they introduced the Stealth armour/Angel ECM with perks combo pack.
I think that introducing the different armour types might help encourage a little more diversity since if you want to boat whatever you are also willing to take the risk that your opponent is resistant to your weapon of choice.
