So here's a thought: The devs seem to have trouble finding the "sweet spot" in terms of balancing SRMs. Too much/little damage, too much/little spread...

Why not have at least 2 types of SRMs, that is, SRMs from different manufacturers.

One would have a high damage, but wide spread. The other would have less damage, but a tighter spread.

Same principle can be applied to PPCs. One brand of PPC will give you the heat penalty (as proposed by the devs), while another brand will not have heat penalty, but have its pinpoint damage reduced but with splash damage added.

And also, the devs should add some back story to these balance fixes by adding some fictional fluff in the IS News.

For example:

Fires in Yori Mechworks' Particle Projection Cannons raise safety concerns.

Company engineers blame the PPC's outsourced supply chain, saying that poor quality components are coming from subcontractors that have operated largely out of Yori's view.

I would like unique weapons but only when used at stock configurations.

I have searched a little bit:
for example the not available Zeus:

Thunderbolt Large Laser: - has a special lense system - because of special internal place problems or similar.
You increase the loading time - while reducing the beam duration

the LRM 15 on the other hand causes a lot of problems - so you may have the benefit of Artemis IV without mounting anything, but you can not mount more as two tons of ammunition, the ammunition load per ton is reduced by 2 salvos and reloading time is increased.
