After I have mastered (1) the Module Slot in my HBK-4p do I need to keep all 3 Hunchies? can I sell 1 or 2 of them? Is there any reason to master all 3, is there some extra bonus to mastering all 3?

HBK-4p
HBK4sp
HBK-4j (I would probably sell this )

You might want to keep it. As the game play balance changes, you might like it in the future.
That being said, I sold my 4J. I kind of regret it now.

If you do sell it, remove any items you might want to use later before you sell it. Engine for example.

Yes. NEVER sell anything in the mech, most especially XL engines. Example: I bought a Cataphract and hated it, but I use its' engine in all my Jenners. (280XL)

Mech bays are cheap, so if you use any real money to the game then use it for mech bays and never sell mechs. Balance changes all the time and I regret many of my earlier sells right now. Mastering a variant will almost always net you enough CB to buy whatever next mech you want so it shouldn't be an issue. Also they have stated that there will be some benefits at some point to owning several variants (at least achievements, but propably also some advantage to some game modes (respawning perhaps) )

Edit: Also the mech exp trees are gonna go through a complete overhaul at some point so I'd wait for that too.

He's referring to UI 2.0. New interface. Beyond that I imagine some of the current tree might have their values edited: Especially heat containment as it raises your threshold. Rising thresholds is part of the underlying reasons alpha strike abuse can even exist.

At one point mastering your stuff got your elites doubled. But back then the values on every upgrade was 2.2%

Actually they stated at some point that they were working on a complete overhaul of the mech trees. It was several months ago (can't find the post right now), so I figure it got moved ahead while they make some more critical updates, but I believe it's coming at some point. At least they have recently stated that they'll look into it (for example the useless arm movement for mechs without arms and the useless for all convergense upgrade)

I recall that actually. But that's a back-burner project I'm sure.

BarHaid- What are your thoughts on modifying the mech skill tree? Is there any chance of introducing variety between weight class?
A: We plan to give Pilot and Mech Trees an overhaul in the near future (late spring/summer).

LethalRose: Any plans to expand the mech skill tree?
A: Yes. We have lots of plans to fill up the skill tree through the rest of 2013.

Back on topic, if you like the mech style then keep it. If you don't, just sell it as they will otherwise just sit in the mech bay unused for a long time. I have sold most of my hunchies after mastering them as I don't find them suiting my style.

ok so you get 3 chassis to elite, how does that affect the weight class?if you have 3 catapults elite then you can elite another heavy or do you need 3 other chassis?it looks like it says 2 chassis+1 same weight class to unlock modules?

3 chassis (Hunchback, Centurion, Cicada) or 3 variants (HBK 4P, 4SP, 4H) to Full Elite unlocks Master. This gives you 1 more module slot.

However you can unlock modules at any time. Just click Pilot Trees, click a module unlock and spend 7,500 to 15,000 GXP. And then head over into the modules window and buy said module for 2 to 6 million cbills.

If you are going to sell a 'mech, in addition to stripping out any equipment, you might also want to convert the XP before you sell, b/c you can't do it afterwards.

You can do it afterwards if you rebuy said mech. But yeah, you'd have to rebuy it. Inconvenience. But handy if you wanted to run the mech again since you don't even have to level it up over again.

(Thought I was in the paints thread when I added a plethora of screens.) Moved and deleted my post below.
It's now in its proper space here.

Wait... so if I get the Basics for my Heavy Metal, Atlas D-DC and a Stalker or Awesome I can unlock the Elite skills for all three chassis?

You still have to unlock all 8 Basic skills on 3 variants of each chassis, but yes, once you've done that, you could dump 2 of those variants and just unlock Elite & Master on one of them. For instance, I first mastered 3 Stalker variants, got all basic on 3 Atlai, and was immediately able to unlock up to Master on my D-DC (I had already racked up enough mech xp with the trial).

Woo. I don't have to Elite my HGN-732 to master my HGN-HM.

I think I encountered this by accident because I was expecting to be able to elite a medium build (don't remember what) at some point, because I was able to do it on a heavy build, but I had already elited/mastered all my Catapults.

Thanks for the clarification here, since I hadn't grasped the implication.

As said already.. You have to get through basic and unlock elite with 3 variants of the same chassis (Awesome, for example).

The transition from Elite to Master is unlocked with any 3 variants of any chassis in the same weight class. You gotta unlock elites first.

There's also the Achievement system coming with UI2.0 or sooner.

Who knows, there may be an achievement for having all of them, would not be happy if I had just sold it and needed to rebuy!

With release so close, it might be best to hold off until more things are finalised. After release you could probably safely sell it if there is nothing extra announced.
