The current weight class based balancing gives whichever team lucks into the most mechs at the top of their weight class a significant advantage (with an exception for Stalkers and Highlanders). To rectify this I suggest a simple +/- 10 ton tonnage based matching system be used instead of the current weight class based system. This will greatly increase the number of potential drop enemies for most mechs and improving the viability of the lighter mechs in a weight class.
Below I have included an overview of the effects of the change on the game and why they're beneficial. Thanks for reading.
Locust, Flea: No longer has to fight the top light mechs improving the survivability of 20 tonners
Commando: No change
Spider: Spiders now fight Cicadas which weakens Spiders a bit but won't be such a concern once the speed limit is lifted.
Raven, Jenner: No beating up on Locusts and gives the enemies a chance at a Cicada or Blackjack which tend to be slower but are quick and well armed to deal with their new opponents
Cicada: Adds new mechs that actually fill a similar role while providing heavier opponents to balance out the cicadas extra armor
Blackjack: Adds lighter mechs that the BJ can kill with it's extra armor and weaponry while still fighting the rest of the medium mechs.
Centurian, Hunchback, Trebuchet: Now fights Dragons and Quickdraws which are effectively mediums
Shadowhawk: Now has to fight Dragons, Quickdraws, Quickdraws, and Thunderbolts balancing their place as the best jump capable 80kph mech
Dragon, Quickdraw: No longer has to fight Orions and can face Centurians, Hunchbacks, Trebuchets which are more similar to Dragons and Quickdraws
Catapult, Jagermech, Thunderbolt: The Shadowhawk becomes a enemy weakening it's advantage as the ideally weighted 80 kph jump capable mech
Cataphract: The Awesome and Victor are now possible enemies weakening the Cataphract's current dominate position in the heavy mech hierarchy without eliminating it
Orion: No longer drops against Dragons and Quickdraws. It now fights Awesomes, Victors, Stalkers, and Battlemasters which the Orion shares a movement profile with. In addition, at 64 kph 75,80, and 85 ton mechs all have the same amount of free weight for weapons, armor, etc so this change has no real effect.
Awesome, Victor: These two benefit greatly with elimination of the Atlas and addition of the Cataphracts and Orions as opponents since these heavy mechs are more similar to 80 tonners than these 80 ton mechs are to the Atlas.
Battlemaster, Stalker: Eliminates the Atlas as an enemy and adds the Orion which is effectively the same as 80 annd 85 ton mechs.
Highlander: No change
Atlas: Atlai only fight Atlai and Highlanders balancing them by making them fight their equals.
