Poll: Module test drives (2 member(s) have cast votes)

What sort of module "preview" makes sense?

  1. Allow users to "test drive" a module a few times before the "test drive" option is locked out. (0 votes [0.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 0.00%

  2. Equip the trial mechs with various modules so people can drop with a trial mech and see what the hubbub is about. (0 votes [0.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 0.00%

  3. Allow users to demo modules in the testing grounds. (1 votes [50.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 50.00%

  4. No. (1 votes [50.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 50.00%

Should users be able to test drive modules?

  1. Yes! Those things are expensive! (1 votes [50.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 50.00%

  2. No! Life is a gamble! (0 votes [0.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 0.00%

  3. No! Spend more time spectating to see how they work, noobs! (1 votes [50.00%])

    Percentage of vote: 50.00%

I see several threads lamenting the cost of modules, module regret (advanced zoom, I'm looking at you), and the like. There's really no way to test the various modules without buying them, and the expense is substantial. What I propose is a few possible ways to allow users to test drive modules prior to purchase.

1. Test drive - every module is available as a "test drive", and can be used, say 3 times. So, you can equip advanced zoom on a ppc equipped mech, realize its awful. Test it on a gauss mech, realize its awful, then test it on an ERLL mech, and realize it's awful. Same with seismic, except realize it's almost a requirement. There could be a moderate cbill cost per drop, but I'd stil limit it to 3-5 uses before the module must be purchased.

2. Trial mechs equipped with sensible seismic modules. As it says, load the trial mechs out with various modules so users can see what they do, even if it's in a 4 laser 4 flamer BJ-1x.

3. Demo modules in testing grounds. Allow users to equip modules they don't own in testing grounds so they can at least see what they do - this would take a little more implementation work, i.e. seismic wouldn't look all that great ;)

Thoughts? I invite discourse on the subject!

Every time they come out with a new module or change one, they should refund us all the GXP and let us buy them again.
