I seem to be typing this a lot lately, but because there will always be a best option, doesn't mean the gap has to be as vast as it is between, say, PPC's and LBX. Ideally, a build centered around one of those weapons might be slightly better than the other, but the difference is small enough that both of them are viable at all levels of play, and pilot skill (actual real skill) in using them is the decider.

The balancing might have been bad up till now, but that doesn't mean balance itself is bad, impossible or even hard.
