Another option that just opened up is my Analog to Digital script.

If I can get a good circular-to-square-aperture bit of maths going on, I could just emulate analogue throttle with the keyboard and cut out the need for virtual joysticks. The code would only need a little tweaking.

As a side note, you gotta try it with quad AC2s mapped to the xbox pad LT - it's a hoot! Variable fire rate gatling gun!
Also the variable rate jump jets on the LT is nice.

I am getting a logitech G13 this week, so you may well see a bunch more activity from me in trying to solve this issue, especially if it's analogue stick has a round aperture like the xbox pad.

Hi guys... not ignoring or uninterested, just don't have any answers that might help here unfortunately. I don't have an xbox controller lying around that I can play around with at the moment and it sounds like some pretty specific problems that others have already put some thought into.

I've wanted to get one for other projects and what not, so if I wind up with one and figure anything out anytime soon I'll share...

edit: run the MWO client repair tool if you haven't already done so...

I have written an app which solves all these issues.

Converts round aperture to square, and makes the throttle relative not absolute.

i guess the thing you had about your mech walking backwards has to do with analog throttle (which can be set in the options)....you have the triggers which - like the pedals in a car - allow you to acc/dec by putting more or less pressure on them. so try using this instead of the standard.

but tbh i only found out that it was possible to use a joypad when i by accident threw a pillow on mine and suddenly my mech went crazy ;) must try how it works (maybe with spider or so, cant think of how to use it with a mech of 5 weapon groups) ...oh and on the d-pad : yes, thats a thing i still dont get...i had "joysticks" in the c64-times which were more sensitive to pressing them than this horrible...well...its the worst control "thing" i´ve ever seen, i guess even using the wii-sticks would work better for that ;)

what you could do is use motioninjoy, a configurable tool where you emulate the keyboard. but be careful where to download it (in a lot of cases you happen to get other "useful tools" with it without being told...and i hate that) and by now i found it to be a PITA....the config menu is horrible (at least i dont know what "button 13" means, never had any console...and when i emulate a xbox-controller i could at least use the damned letters on the buttons, not numbers which make no sense [to me]) and the reaction...you lose a lot of fine controls imho.

will stick with my rat 7 mmo - i just love this mouse and adding a joystick to the side of the already awesome rat 7 ...i could kiss the mad katz guys every day ....not to mention that this mouse - in opposite to the razer-trash - feels great....its not "plastic with lots of buttons, its killing power, perfect aim and comfort in one adorable piece where you see that the people who made it _liked_ what they did. my razer naga is rotting somewhere around here, still making me crazy i spent that much cash on such a horrible thing :)

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it is not possible with normal MWO to have a stick behave like keyboard throttle.

With KB throttle, you hit forward, you start moving forwards, but if you hold back, you go past "stop" and into "reverse".

With joystick, by default, the stick directly controls speed, not acc / dec like with kb.
If you edit user.cfg, you can set cl_joystick_throttle_range = 0 to change joystick throttle to a diff mode:

up/down is acc/dec, but if you hit 0, down is NOT reverse.
You have to use some annoying reverse mode, which is a liability in a fight.

With my mod - the controls behave exactly like the keyboard, but they are all analog

And I said nothing about aiming.
I aim with a mouse - this mod is intended to let people use xbox controller in left hand for movement, mouse in right hand for aiming.

I use a Xbox controller and have like the rest of us been experiencing the same issues since May. I have however made the game at least playable by using Y as full throttle, A as throttle toggle, start as full stop, up and Down on dpad as throttle plus/minus and the left and right on dpad as the leg turner. Unfortunately as the B button is currently set to zoom even if you change it and the left trigger is the same as the right, I can only have two weapon configs unless I want to move my push to talk off the controller or the mech doesn't have jump jets. I have found that zooming in does compensate somewhat for aiming difficulties and that the controller was getting more sensitive with each patch before that dark day in May. Also the dpad works best for mechs that don't move that fast.

i have spent the last hour trying to configure my controller for use with this game, with no luck i might add. it seems assigning the right joystick up for forward conflicts with right joystick down for backwards as it doesnt differentiate between up and down, it just sees it as one axis. despite all my efforts at tweaking the game for controller support my mech continuously walks left in a circle uncontrollably. this really does look like a great game, but for me not having FULL controller support is the killer for anything i play. yeah i know pc gamers should be playing with keyboard and mouse however using a controller is more natural to me. hopefully in the future they get this issue solved and make it so that the game is plug and play compatible with a controller with a decent layout for controls. as for now i uninstalled the game and will likely delete my account. ill check back in a year to give them adequet time to sort things out

This is horrible. I have an xbox controller as well, and the support for it is horrendous. By default, you cannot even set the back shoulder buttons. I saw a youtube video where one of the main creators was saying that he wanted for people to finally enjoy mechwarrior again, using a multiplayer mode. This is the game they thought people wanted. Boy, weree they ever so ******* wrong. Game uninstalled.

The fact that this game seems only pay to play is a terrible business model for people who truly want to try out the game and see if it's a good game. And the way you equip your weapons, I don't understand it. No actual visuals? Wow. And if you reduce your armour, you can't even re-increase it? Wtf?
