'aggressive' Weapon Balancing And Srms

Even if they don't know the answer already, they can't spend an hour or two playtesting it to find out for sure? The fact that the dev team is unable to test a few values and answer this question on their own makes them look like imbeciles.
Worst case scenario for buffing SRMs right now: In 6 months, when the hitreg bug is finally tracked down, if SRMs suddenly become OP you guys can spend 5 minutes and update the spreadsheet value. Or you can *gasp* playtest it again at that time to find a sane value.

SRMs are 'almost' fine
Hit Detection is not

He essentially told us that 2.5 dmg per missile broke the game in their tests, and that 2.0 was pretty bad too. But by all means, full steam ahead. The end results should at least be entertaining.

facehugging
can't miss anything like that lol
if they'd increase damage do 2.0 and hit detection gets fixed, don't complain abut them being OP while killing you with 3 shots on your CT. 3-5 shots are sufficient to reduce an Assaults armor to 0, in case they all hit

1.) Did they test the 6xSRM6 build with new heat stacking penalties?
2.) Is it necessarily a bad thing that 3 volleys from 6xSRM6 can core an assault? That seems normal to me.
3.) Where did he say that 2.0 damage was 'pretty bad too'???

Holy ****, here's an idea. Before they release the fix for hit detection, they could test SRMs to see if they become OP and change them again. Crazy idea, right? Obviously, if SRMs become OP when hit detection is fixed then other weapons will need to be reevaluated too.

If you're reliably getting 600-900 damage by facehugging with SRMs then you're playing with idiots and your opinion doesn't mean a whole lot.

You do realize that the whole point of this heat scale change is to reduce the ******** boat builds right? 36 SRM cats would be one of those builds. Half the community doesn't want easy mode CoD two click gaming. The last round of silly balance prior to PPCs was the short range death train. Everyone just brought SRMs and AC20's closed to 100m and let fly. Essentially it came down to who could get their broadside off fastest. I don't want to return to that if they manage to fix PPCs. We need to let them put in the 16th patch and see what it does first before buffing weapons.

I'm all for bringing sanity back to the game. We all want it. All I know is this: SRMs suck. They've sucked for a long time. If they're not buffed it will still make more sense to always go for Streaks or LRMs.
Part of my problem with Paul's poll is this: He's asking us to envision game balance with the heat changes and decide if buffed SRMs will be balanced. It's his job to know the answer to that question. If anyone here can answer that question it should be him. He should be telling us it's balanced, or close to balanced, not asking us to make wild guesses about a game state we know far less about than he does (or should).

They're only in the shadows because of the PPC boating alpha problem. They are in fact usable even with the low damage, except they do just that, low damage. Upping it to 2.0 and getting hit-reg working will be really nice in and of itself.
