I fail to see how DtheSleepless was being crass. Each mech handles so differently that what he said is true. Ilike to think I am a fairly good Jenner Pilot...but I become hilariously bad in anything else. It all depends on the person and what they are building the mech to do. Some mechs are easier to use than others, others are easy to build to one-shot people or are bugged.

The crass part was about my own earlier comment. Not everyone slings insults at other people around these forums:)

Owning a fast X-5 was my first true joy in this game, after a week of lumbering around in an Assault and not enjoying it much. Your X-5 wont do as much damage as a 4PPC Stalker, but you will have a lot more fun doing the damage that you do, and build better overall MechWarrior skills into the bargain.

The Jenner F(C) is also a great Mech, though you have to be a better pilot to get the most out of it.

If you like Commando's the DK is a good Commando. Elite out Commandos first before you buy it to make sure you like the chassis. Same goes for X-5. Elite out Cicadas first, then consider it.

As far as Cicadas go: 3M has ECM, toss a LPL and 3ML on it, does well. 2A does nice damage with 6ML but takes a little heat management. If you prefer better aiming and easier heat management the 2B with 5ML is fine. The 3C is fun. I stuck with lower speed (120ish) when I leveled it and tossed 3MG, 1AC/2, and 1MPL on it. It was a blast but not especially effective. Of course, that was before MG buffs, might actually be good now.

I'm having blast in my COM's.

Their small frame makes it very easy to dodge incoming fire and to take cover with just very small ripples in terrain.

As a minor irritant you often get ignored on the battlefield, allowing you to take down wounded prey.

Its amazing how much extra survivability you gain with a standard engine as well.

Just wish my arms didn't poke out so much, the get ripped off!
