Simple macros seem to be the way to go currently. The weapon should be changed to a toggle IMO because it becomes a hassle to use otherwise.

Personally I have a Razer Naga mouse and use the Synapse software to create a very simple macro. Set your tag to weapon group 6, then have one of your mouse buttons trigger a macro for Button 6 key pressed down (but never up). This will keep the TAG going until you 1) Press 6 manually 2) Open the map 3) Press Q to view friendly HP.

I used to have a repeating macro of button 6 pressing, but like mentioned previously by Hauser, that will spam chat if you attempt to communicate with your teammates. The macro with button 6 down w/o a corresponding button up will not.

I just started using a Razer Naga, and oh sweet holy baby Jesus does it make a difference. For those who don't know...

This is the one I'm using, except it's dark-red and black, since I'm planning to start dropping with HHoD. http://www.razerzone...razer-naga-hex/ I invested in this and a pair of Turtle Beach headphones for that purpose alone.

Mimimmi.

Think of a macro as a very, very tiny program.... I mean script. (Yes, I remember the Timex Sinclair 1000/ Spectrum!) A script is a set of instructions in a proprietary "scripting language" which allows you to do things such as talking to Mech Warrior when you press a certain mouse button. Mech Warrior itself is a set of many, many instructions in a programming language to the computer which is much more complex than a script, but similar, and called a program.( Back in the day, scripts and programs were much more similar than they are now, and everything was called a program.)

To use it download and install a program called Autohotkey. This then runs the script. The Macro by EvilC is in Autohotkey, that is why you need that. There are other languages you can use, but AHK is one of the most popular. Don't worry, it is not nearly as complicated to use as it sounds, since the work has been done for you. If you get stuck, PM EvilC for help, as he wrote that script. Or post here.

Macro is short for macroinstruction. It replaces on instruction with another more complex set of instructions. People use this to automate simple tasks or change how their controls work.

The toggle tag macro for example intercepts the button press event (button up, button down) and sends a button down event to MWO. On the second press event it sends a button up event.

Ok, awesome!

Of course naturally the next question would be, "How do you use macros? Is it another software?"

Typically, if you don't know how to write it yourself, although I strongly recommend learning to do so, 2 hours should be enough to learn how to write all the basic scripts you will ever need and be able to edit other scripts, you request a ready-to-use file from someone else.
In most cases it will be an Autohotkey script.

So, what you need to do:
1) Install Autohotkey (google it, it is free)
2) Get the script itself (should have an .ahk extension, if you don't see file extensions - enable this option, as not seeing them is a huge security hole for your system). You can check the contents in Notepad++ if you want.
3) Double-click the script file to launch it. That is it. The script icon will appear in the system tray, from there you can pause or close it.

I still don't fully understand why people do this. As a light pilot a tag that is constantly turned on screams "shoot me now!" There is a LOT to be said for being sneaky, even when you don't have ECM. Having tag always on kind of defeats that purpose. As far as having tag assigned to every weapon group, sometimes it is beneficial to be tagging enemies without damaging them. They can tell when they're being damaged, but not when they're being tagged.

You nailed it.

Put Tag on left Ctrl, easiest thing to do.
